SUMMARY:Introduction to Clay – Hand Building (Thursdays and Saturdays)
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Clay – Hand Building is a bi-weekly program where students learn basic elements of clay hand building methods. Although each session is designed to work independently\, it is recommended for students to take various workshops to perfect the medium and become comfortable with the materials. \nOne hand-built object will be made during class. Underglaze (color) will be added during class by the student\, work will be cleaned up and bisque fired after work has dried\, clear glaze will be applied by the instructor after first firing\, and a second firing to finish the piece will be run immediately after. DESCRIPTION:History Fort Lauderdale\, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors\, will present “Timeless Tropics: Florida’s Changing Landscape” from Thursday\, July 9\, through Sunday\, September 13. This free summer fine art exhibit exploring Florida’s evolving natural and urban landscapes will feature works by award-winning artist Tim Forman and photographer David Paulo plus contextual historical maps of our timeless state. \nVisitors to History Fort Lauderdale’s “Timeless Tropics: Florida’s Changing Landscape” will experience Tim Forman’s artfully curated oil on canvas masterworks of the Florida Everglades\, waterscapes\, beachscapes and natural wildlife. These landscapes are complemented by David Paulo’s bold photographic narrative of buildings and neighborhoods in South Florida that are significant to culture and life of minority communities. Documented cities include Sistrunk\, Lauderhill\, and Dania Beach. Historical maps of Florida from pre-Revolutionary War/Spanish Florida in 1749 to British controlled Florida in 1763 to Florida as a U.S. state in 1845 and illustrative panels will context and clarity about our history. \n“Timeless Tropics: Florida’s Changing Landscape” is part of History Fort Lauderdale’s contribution to America’s 250 activities. On July 4\, 2026\, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past\, honor the contributions of all Americans\, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond. \nSupport for History Fort Lauderdale’s “Timeless Tropics: Florida’s Changing Landscape” exhibit has been provided by the following Funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund\, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund\, and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. Additional funding is provided\, in part\, by Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward County Cultural Council and Visit Lauderdale. \nHistory Fort Lauderdale offers a variety of engaging multicultural experiences throughout the year. DESCRIPTION:Curated by Luna Goldberg \nThis exhibition traces Luke Jenkins’ sustained exploration of material as both subject and collaborator. Bringing together works created over the last decade\, the show highlights his ongoing experimentation with wood. Over time\, Jenkins has developed a practice rooted in experimentation\, in which wood is reclaimed\, reshaped\, and tested through a wide range of techniques\, from CNC carving and thermal modification to inventive joinery\, sandblasting\, and even the interventions of termites. His work continually asks what materials can do\, how they change under pressure\, and how their transformations might open up new ways of making. Jenkins’ projects move fluidly between the functional and the conceptual. At times\, scraps are reimagined into benches\, tables\, or wall pieces; elsewhere\, termite-eaten planks or weathered ash panels become sculptural surfaces that speak to decay\, resilience\, and renewal. DESCRIPTION:Curated by Luna Goldberg \nThis exhibition traces Luke Jenkins’ sustained exploration of material as both subject and collaborator. Bringing together works created over the last decade\, the show highlights his ongoing experimentation with wood. Over time\, Jenkins has developed a practice rooted in experimentation\, in which wood is reclaimed\, reshaped\, and tested through a wide range of techniques\, from CNC carving and thermal modification to inventive joinery\, sandblasting\, and even the interventions of termites. His work continually asks what materials can do\, how they change under pressure\, and how their transformations might open up new ways of making. Jenkins’ projects move fluidly between the functional and the conceptual. At times\, scraps are reimagined into benches\, tables\, or wall pieces; elsewhere\, termite-eaten planks or weathered ash panels become sculptural surfaces that speak to decay\, resilience\, and renewal. The cherished photo opportunity with the larger-than-life artistic poppy flowers will run through November 10 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale (2414 East Sunrise Blvd.). \nDesigned by South Florida based Ingham Landscaping and presented by Galleria Fort Lauderdale\, the two-month living garden will be a colorful and lively setting featuring the five-and 6-foot striking handcrafted fiberglass poppy flowers which are a remembrance of those who protect and serve our country. The inside mall garden will include a variety of tropical ornamental plants and shrubs that will complement the artistic poppy works of art. \nAdding to the installation\, will be “Soldier Stories\,” an exclusive exhibition by award-winning artist Marilyn Johansen honoring veterans and the military. DESCRIPTION:Kicks for Kids will be Turf City SRQ’s first indoor soccer tournament. Our goal is to bring awareness and to donate for the month of September which is Pediatric Oncology Awareness Month. This will be a 6V6 soccer tournament at the new all turf indoor sports facility\, Turf City SRQ. The tournament is September 12-13th. Youth games will be held on the 12th from 8AM-2PM\, U10-U12. Men’s division will be from 3PM-11PM on Sep 12th. The men’s division will be getting a cash prize as well a trophy and medals. Youth division will be receiving a trophy and medals. The 13th will have our semifinal and finals games. There will be food trucks\, donation station\, and other vendors available. Proceeds will be benefitting a local Florida nonprofit pediatric oncology charity called Cannonball for Kids.
