SUMMARY:The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden at Galleria Fort Lauderdale
DESCRIPTION:Galleria Fort Lauderdale presents The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden in support of Henderson Behavioral Health (HBH) in collaboration with the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. This public art initiative is designed to honor veterans while raising awareness and funds for critical mental health services. Shoppers can take colorful photos and selfies to share online and connect with and donate to HBH’s virtual Legacy Wall which encourages friends and families to honor loved ones who have served or are currently serving our country. The cherished photo opportunity with the larger-than-life artistic poppy flowers will run through November 10 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale (2414 East Sunrise Blvd.). \nDesigned by South Florida based Ingham Landscaping and presented by Galleria Fort Lauderdale\, the two-month living garden will be a colorful and lively setting featuring the five-and 6-foot striking handcrafted fiberglass poppy flowers which are a remembrance of those who protect and serve our country. The inside mall garden will include a variety of tropical ornamental plants and shrubs that will complement the artistic poppy works of art. \nAdding to the installation\, will be “Soldier Stories\,” an exclusive exhibition by award-winning artist Marilyn Johansen honoring veterans and the military. Visitors will also be encouraged to select free postcards and add a personal message to current servicemen and women. This special moment is arranged by the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. Special retail offers will coincide with this community project. \nInspired by the poppy’s historical significance as a symbol of sacrifice\, rooted in the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields\,” and later adopted as a national emblem of remembrance\, HBH’s The Poppy Project brings this tradition to life in a local and meaningful way. \nThe effort is sponsored by key community partners and supporters including The Leo Goodwin Foundation\, Arlene Pecora\, the Henderson Behavioral Health Board of Directors\, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL)\, USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee\, Community Foundation of Broward\, Disabled American Veterans-Gold Coast Chapter 133\, Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and Galleria Fort Lauderdale. \nTo learn more\, call (954) 564-1015 or visit www.galleriamall-fl.com.

SUMMARY:PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary to Host a Viewing of “25 Cats of Qatar” Film

PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary (PURRR) – a nonprofit organization with a mission to transform cats\’ lives one PURRR at a time\, through rescue\, adoption\, and spay + neuter initiatives – invites the community to a viewing of the film\, “25 Cats of Qatar\,” directed by Mye Hoang\, at Savor Cinema on Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for $15. \nGuests will have the opportunity to meet and greet with the PURRR team to learn more about the nonprofit’s work and mission. “25 Cats of Qatar” Director Mye Hoang will be at the reception immediately after the movie to meet and greet with guests. \nFounded in 2018\, PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to transform cats\’ lives one PURRR at a time\, through rescue\, adoption\, and spay + neuter initiatives that help reduce overpopulation and ultimately enrich the human-feline connection. PURRR is committed to giving cats and their companions a better future by offering a safe haven and encouraging responsible pet ownership. \nPURRR’s team and volunteers bring a wealth of experience and compassion to everything they do. From adoptions to spay + neuter services\, every aspect of PURRR is driven by a deep love for cats and a commitment to their well-being. \n“25 Cats of Qatar” Synopsis: Qatar is one of the world’s wealthiest nations\, and its rapid growth is powered by migrant workers who make 89% of the population. But underneath the luxurious surface lies an overwhelming street cat population where disease is rampant\, the heat is extreme\, and expats are burdened to help the struggling felines. \nWhen an American flight attendant and cat cafe owner becomes aware of the crisis\, she hatches a plan to fly 25 cats to Milwaukee\, where her cat cafe provides a pipeline for adoption. Presenting a microcosm of a global crisis\, the film asks searching questions about animal welfare\, all within a ticking-clock narrative about the nuts and bolts of a rescue mission. It is both an urgent wake-up call and a heartwarming story of overcoming international barriers for a common goal. \nThrough its “Find Your One” process\, PURRR’s team helps future cat moms and dads find their soul cat and guides them every step of the way. With over 150 adoptable cats\, the PURRR team knows every cat – their personality\, history\, quirks and what kind of home they need to become themselves fully. Whether future cat parents are seeking a playful and energetic kitten\, a calm and cuddly adult cat\, or a wise and gentle senior\, PURRR’s diverse selection of feline friends ensures there’s a perfect match for every home. Soul cat profiles built around personality are available on each feline friend in PURRR’s care. \nThe “Find Your One” experience starts with filling out an application to help PURRR’s team understand the adoptee’s preferences\, lifestyle\, and what they\’re looking for in a cat companion. Within 48 hours\, a PURRR team member will schedule a meet and greet for the chance to see firsthand the personalities and quirks of feline residents. After connecting with a potential furry family member\, PURRR schedules a 15-minute in-home\, educational consultation to ensure a smooth integration into the home. PURRR prioritizes the new feline family member\’s well-being and conducts a comprehensive final medical examination and bloodwork before taking the lifelong feline companion home. The PURRR team will check in after a week to ensure a smooth transition and address any questions. Beyond adoption day\, PURRR provides support\, resources\, and guidance throughout the journey as a pet owner. \nWhen:\nSunday\, Oct. 18\, at 2 p.m. \nWhere:\nSavor Cinema\n503 SE 6th Street\nFort Lauderdale\, FL 33301 \nCost:\n$15 \nLink: https://www.purrr.org/events/
