SUMMARY:The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden at Galleria Fort Lauderdale
DESCRIPTION:Galleria Fort Lauderdale presents The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden in support of Henderson Behavioral Health (HBH) in collaboration with the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. This public art initiative is designed to honor veterans while raising awareness and funds for critical mental health services. Shoppers can take colorful photos and selfies to share online and connect with and donate to HBH’s virtual Legacy Wall which encourages friends and families to honor loved ones who have served or are currently serving our country. The cherished photo opportunity with the larger-than-life artistic poppy flowers will run through November 10 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale (2414 East Sunrise Blvd.). \nDesigned by South Florida based Ingham Landscaping and presented by Galleria Fort Lauderdale\, the two-month living garden will be a colorful and lively setting featuring the five-and 6-foot striking handcrafted fiberglass poppy flowers which are a remembrance of those who protect and serve our country. The inside mall garden will include a variety of tropical ornamental plants and shrubs that will complement the artistic poppy works of art. \nAdding to the installation\, will be “Soldier Stories\,” an exclusive exhibition by award-winning artist Marilyn Johansen honoring veterans and the military. Visitors will also be encouraged to select free postcards and add a personal message to current servicemen and women. This special moment is arranged by the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. Special retail offers will coincide with this community project. \nInspired by the poppy’s historical significance as a symbol of sacrifice\, rooted in the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields\,” and later adopted as a national emblem of remembrance\, HBH’s The Poppy Project brings this tradition to life in a local and meaningful way. \nThe effort is sponsored by key community partners and supporters including The Leo Goodwin Foundation\, Arlene Pecora\, the Henderson Behavioral Health Board of Directors\, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL)\, USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee\, Community Foundation of Broward\, Disabled American Veterans-Gold Coast Chapter 133\, Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and Galleria Fort Lauderdale. \nTo learn more\, call (954) 564-1015 or visit www.galleriamall-fl.com.

SUMMARY:OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Presents Love on a Tightrope\, its Noche Cinemundo Ladies’ Spotlight Film & Afterparty

An afterparty will follow the screening. \nSet in 1968\, Love on a Tightrope is inspired by the real encounter between legendary trapeze artist Pinito del Oro and poet Natalia Sosa Ayala. When Pinito hires Natalia to help write her memoirs during her final tour with the Circo Price\, what begins as a professional collaboration slowly evolves into an emotionally charged and deeply intimate connection. Through letters exchanged over decades and memories reimagined across time\, the film reconstructs a relationship shaped as much by longing and imagination as by reality. Blending lyrical storytelling with restrained emotional intensity\, Arima León’s debut explores love\, silence\, and the constraints imposed by a society unable to name what exists between them. \nThe film is in Spanish with English subtitles and runs 116 minutes. \nThe OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fall Edition runs through Oct. 25 with select films available for OUTshine At-Home viewing from Oct. 26 – Nov. 1. \nThe OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fall Edition is made possible with the support of Miami-Dade County Tourist Development Council\, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs\, the Cultural Affairs Council\, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners as well with the support of the City of Miami Beach\, Cultural Affairs Program\, Cultural Arts Council. SUMMARY:OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Presents Narciso\, its Noche Cinemundo Men’s Spotlight Film & Afterparty
DESCRIPTION:The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fall Edition presents the historical mystery-drama Narciso (Paraguay\, Brazil\, Portugal\, Germany\, Spain\, France\, Uruguay\, 2026)\, its Noche Cinemundo Men’s Spotlight Film\, on Oct. 23.\, at 7:25 p.m.\, at Silverspot Cinema – Downtown Miami. An afterparty will follow the screening. \nParaguay\, 1959. Returning from Buenos Aires with rock ‘n’ roll in his veins\, the charismatic Narciso quickly becomes a radio sensation and a symbol of freedom in a nation suffocated by the military dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner. Admired by both men and women\, his magnetic presence challenges the country’s rigid social order. But after his final performance\, Narciso is found dead under mysterious circumstances. As rumors spread and fear silences the truth\, his death exposes a society shaped by repression\, prejudice\, and political control.
