SUMMARY:Lakou La Croix
DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition presenting a collection of artworks by Louiveste La Croix that explore childhood memory\, displacement\, and communal identity. This body of work reflects the artist’s early life in Saint Louis du Nord\, Haiti\, and the emotional transitions of moving between multiple households before immigrating to South Florida. \nThe concept of lakou\, a communal living structure rooted in Haitian culture\, serves as both a physical and symbolic framework throughout the exhibition. For the artist\, lakou represents a way of living shaped by shared responsibility\, adaptability\, and survival. Growing up\, this communal arrangement existed across many places\, as Louiveste lived with various relatives away from his parents due to the prolonged immigration process. Each home became a temporary doorway\, shaping his sense of belonging and identity. \nLakou La Croix is a constellation of memories that form a complex portrait of self. Through mixed media\, symbolism\, and layered narratives\, the exhibition examines how culture\, spirituality\, consciousness\, community\, and expression intersect to shape identity. Each artwork acts as a doorway\, inviting viewers to move through personal history\, collective memory\, and the evolving meaning of home. \nOpening Reception │ May 8\, 2026 │6 – 8PM │ Click here to register \nThis is a Weekly Recurring Event\nRuns from May 8\, 2026 to Jun 13\, 2026 and happens every:\nTuesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nWednesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nThursdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nFridays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nSaturdays: 10:00am – 4:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)

SUMMARY:Ayiti: The Black Pearl
DESCRIPTION:Resilience\, resistance\, and revolutionary hope for the future. These are the major themes of Haiti’s 221-year history. As the first country in the western hemisphere to be founded as the result of a successful slave revolt\, it is clear that revolutionary attitudes have defined the country itself as well as its historical impact. Haiti played a significant role in abolition and liberating many countries from colonial rule\, including: Santo Domingo(now the Dominican Republic)\, Venezuela\, Colombia\, Ecuador\, and Peru. But the ransom that France forced Haiti to pay for their own liberation set up the conditions that would lead to the country’s current challenges that have left the country less than hopeful about its future. \nA myopic\, sensationalized fantasy about an impoverished\, lawless state that is essentially hopeless and ungovernable is the default perspective used to discuss Haiti. However\, Haiti\’s potential lies in the reigns of self-determination being placed back in the hands of her people. This prospect is only possible through a revival of the same revolutionary imagination that freed Haiti the first time and allowed Haitians to realize a future no one thought was possible. \nWhile viewing the paintings in this series the audience is invited to challenge their preconceived notions about Haiti and her people through the lens of the attitudes and hope necessary to liberate Haiti from its current challenges. By emphasizing the beauty of Haiti\, its culture\, history\, and people\, we can shift the way we talk about Haiti and Haitians with the goal of advancing a brighter future for the country. \nThis is a Weekly Recurring Event\nRuns from May 1\, 2026 to May 28\, 2026 and happens every:\nTuesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nWednesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nThursdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nFridays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nSaturdays: 10:00am – 4:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)

DESCRIPTION:A wickedly funny\, wildly inventive\, and fiercely unpredictable play. In WINK by Jen Silverman\, a seemingly ordinary marriage spirals into delicious chaos after one very bad decision involving the family cat. What follows is a wickedly funny\, wildly inventive\, and fiercely unpredictable examination of love\, power\, and survival. SUMMARY:Figure/Ground
DESCRIPTION:DeGraaf’s studio practice is deeply informed by the Gestalt principles of perception\, particularly the relationship between figure and ground. Rather than presenting a stable or singular image\, his compositions invite viewers to move between what is seen immediately and what slowly emerges through closer observation. Figures and forms are first constructed through recognizable visual structures\, then gradually deconstructed through overlapping shapes\, interruptions\, and spatial ambiguity. This push and pull across the picture plane challenges the eye to continuously reorganize the image\, creating moments where foreground and background compete\, merge\, or dissolve into one another. In doing so\, the work mirrors the way perception itself functions – constantly searching for meaning\, connection\, and wholeness within fragmented experiences.\nThis is a Weekly Recurring Event runs from May 19\, 2026 to Jul 16\, 2026 and happens every:\nTuesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm\nWednesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm\nThursdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm\nFridays: 10:00am – 6:00pm\nSaturdays: 10:00am – 4:00pm

SUMMARY:Island City Stage presents the Florida Premiere of Light Switch
DESCRIPTION:Meet Henry Sullivan – 27\, gay\, Autistic\, and completely enchanted by the sweeping romance of 19th-century British novels. He’s read Wuthering Heights 67 times; dreamed every scene… but nothing in those pages prepared him for the complexities of modern dating. Join Henry on his journey through love\, heartbreak\, identity\, and acceptance – navigating a world that doesn’t always understand him and learning to write his own kind of love story – in Island City Stage’s Florida premiere of Light Switch by Dave Osmundsen. Tickets are on sale now for the play running May 21 – June 14. \nThis poignant coming-of-age story thoughtfully portrays one remarkable young man\’s journey to find anything — or anyone — that lights up his heart the way 19th century romantic literature does. When Henry ultimately meets a potential match in Joseph\, he wonders if Joseph will be the one to “flip the switch.” Funny\, moving\, and profoundly relatable\, Light Switch captures the power of imagination\, the longing for connection\, and the courage it takes to be truly seen. \nAutistic playwright Dave Osmundsen’s work explores the intersections of queerness and neurodiversity. Light Switch received its world premiere with Spectrum Theatre Ensemble in April 2022. Light Switch was also the 2021 Distinguished Achievement recipient of the Jean Kennedy Smith Playwriting Award\, an Honorable Mention finalist for BAPF 2021\, longlisted for the Theatre503 International Playwriting Award\, a finalist for the 2020 Carlo Annoni Playwriting Prize\, and a semi-finalist for the 2020 National Playwrights Conference. Osmundsen’s work has been seen and developed at KCACTF Region 8\, the Kennedy Center/NNPN MFA Playwrights Workshop\, B Street Theatre\, the William Inge Theatre Festival\, the Midwest Dramatists Conference\, Phoenix Theatre Company\, Clamour Theatre Company\, Premiere Stages\, and more. He was one of two recipients of the Blank Theatre and Ucross Foundation’s inaugural Future of Playwriting Prize. His one-act\, A Firework Unexploded\, was a semi-finalist for the NYC Audio Theatre Writing Contest and was produced by Pint-Sized in London. His plays have been published by or are forthcoming in The Dionysian\, Canyon Voices\, Exposition Review and Broadway Play Publishing. SUMMARY:Choral Evensong
DESCRIPTION:Join St. Gregory’s for Choral Evensong this Sunday at 6 pm for Choral Evensong\, one of the most beautiful services of the Anglican Church. \nABOUT CHORAL EVENSONG\nEvensong is perhaps one of the most beautiful of all services that comes out of the Anglican church. The service is quite literally a living history of our church and its traditions. Being basically Evening Prayer\, apart from a few prayers and scripture readings\, the service is sung by a choir and cantor. The office of Evensong traces its history of origin all the way back to Thomas Cranmer\, Archbishop of Canterbury during the reigns of Henry VIII\, Edward VI\, and Mary I\, under whose hand he was burned at the stake in Oxford during her attempt to return England to Catholicism. Cranmer was trying to figure out a way to reduce the number of services within a day\, as there was a series of services known as The Hours\, which required one to attend many services throughout the day. He ended up combining two of the final services of the day\, which were Vespers\, sung at sunset\, and Compline\, so called because it completed the day\, into one service. We find that the two major canticles of Evensong\, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis\, come from Vespers and Compline respectfully. The form of the service\, with its psalms\, scripture\, collects\, and prayers\, originates from these two services and hasn’t changed too terribly much since first appearing in the 1549 Prayer Book. \nMany countless musical settings of the canticles and psalms have been composed throughout the centuries\, making the service of Evensong rich in musical diversity\, beauty\, and heritage\, and we in the Anglican Church are very blessed to have these services upon which to draw inspiration and guidance through their graceful elegance and tradition. \nOur next Choral Evensong will be held Sunday evening\, May 24\, at 6 PM and will include the beautiful hymn by Daniel Iverson\, “Spirit of the Living God\,” and Gerald Finzi’s incredibly powerful and majestic anthem “God is Gone Up”. This Choral Evensong will celebrate the end of the Easter season and the beginning of the Pentecost season and will be our final Choral Evensong until October. \nChoral music performed of this caliber would normally be sung by concert choirs costing $50 or more in ticket price. At St. Gregory’s\, we are privileged and blessed to hear this glorious music sung in the setting for which it was intended\, the sacred and holy service of Choral Evensong\, as part of our usual schedule of liturgies.
