SUMMARY:Island City Stage presents the East Coast Premiere of Everything Beautiful Happens at Night
DESCRIPTION:From writer Ted Malawer (Red\, White\, & Royal Blue)\, Carbonell and Silver Palm Award-winning director Bruce Linser\, and featuring stunning illustrations by multi-award-winning artist Bong Redila\, Everything Beautiful Happens at Night is a tender\, funny\, and moving story about the life you have\, the life you want\, and who stays when the world gets quiet. Tickets are on sale now for Island City Stage’s East Coast premiere of the play which runs April 2- 26. \nEzra is a closeted children’s book author. Nancy is his fiercely loyal editor. Their creative partnership has shaped stories that delight generations. But when writer’s block pushes Ezra far past deadlines to deliver his latest book\, a new voice enters the conversation and begins to change Ezra’s life\, inspiring a controversial ending to Chipmunk and Squirrel\, and testing the limits of his friendship with Nancy. \nAs a former literary agent for children’s book authors\, then as an editor of children’s books\, and ultimately as a children’s book author and novelist\, himself\, Ted Malawer has spun a tale close to home. Everything Beautiful Happens at Night was partially inspired by his childhood LGBTQ author heroes Maurice Sendak (“Where the Wild Things Are”) and Arnold Lobel (“Frog and Toad” books). The play held its world premiere at Capital Stage in Sacramento\, California\, in early 2025 and its second U.S. staging brings it to the award-winning Island City Stage in Wilton Manors\, Florida. \nIsland City Stage’s production of Everything Beautiful Happens at Night\, directed by Linser\, stars Christopher Dreeson as Ezra\, Laura Turnbull as Nancy\, and Aidan Paul as Jake. \nEverything Beautiful Happens at Night co-producers are Russell Vance\, Michael Mullins and Terry Gaw; Lights and Sound Sponsor is Scott Bennett; Talent Sponsors are Paul Rolli & Bennett Quade and Robert Lee; Costume Sponsors are Rita Cassady and John Colemen; Set Sponsors are Margie & Trevor Fried; and Illustrations Sponsor is DC Allen & Ken Flick No Gay Hate Fund at Our Fund. Additional funding is provided by the following: The Our Fund Foundation\, The Schubert Foundation Inc.\, the SHS Foundation\, the Warten Foundation\, and OutClique. \nIndividual show tickets start at $45. A Mimosa Sunday performance sponsored by John Fomook and Charles Lee will take place on April 12. SUMMARY:Sarasota s 25th Anniversary Good Friday STATIONS of the Cross Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:Sarasota s 25th Anniversary Good Friday STATIONS of the Cross Pilgrimage\nTwenty-seven Ministers of fourteen Denominations will participate in the Good Friday\, Stations of the Cross down the center of Main Street Sarasota. With four Ministerial Associations and Denominational Prelates participating\, over 100 congregations are represented. This Good Friday\, April 3rd\, is the 25th year Sarasota will observe the worldwide Stations of the Cross tradition. What began in mid-15th century Jerusalem is now celebrated in over 200 nations on Good Friday of Holy Week. The fourteen Biblically recorded events that happened to Jesus on his way to crucifixion are remembered\, Station by Station. A service booklet sharing the acts of worship corresponding to the historic\, fourteen physical Stations in Jerusalem will be distributed to all pilgrims.\nEveryone is invited to Walk Your Faith this Holy Week by experiencing “The Way” or “Stations of the Cross” on April 3rd. In past years\, the pilgrimage was confined to the north sidewalk of Main Street. Since 2011\, the Sarasota Police Department escort has facilitated the procession so pilgrims can safely walk down the center of Main Street. In 2025\, over 1\,000 pilgrims participated in this three-quarters of a mile journey. Twenty-four years ago\, the Sarasota Ministerial Association began to co-host the observance with The Church of The Redeemer\, whose Friday Men s Breakfast Prayer Group founded Sarasota s observance in 1996. Then\, fewer than 15 souls participated\, but their prayers now bear the fruit of hundreds experiencing what has become a Sarasota Happening.\nPilgrims begin to gather at 7 a.m. and the pilgrimage starts at 7:15 a.m. in front of the Regal Hollywood movie theater\, 1993 Main Street\, just off Washington Blvd.\, 301. Sarasota City and County Commissioners preside over Station One\, “Jesus Is Condemned To Death.” For those who would like to park at the final Station location (Church of the Redeemer at 222 S. Palm Ave.)\, the Siesta Trolley will transport you to Regal Hollywood from Redeemer starting at 6 a.m. The Stations of the Cross journey offers an opportunity to reflect on the different moments of Christ s passion journey to his crucifixion in Jerusalem 2\,000 years ago. Pilgrims will reach the final Station\, Church of the Redeemer\, at about 8:30 a.m. At that time\, all are invited to attend a brief Morning Prayer Service reflecting on Good Friday inside the church.\nObserve Christ s passion on the day the world stops to celebrate it. For more information\, contact Grier Ferguson\, Church Of The Redeemer Episcopal Church\, gferguson@redeemersarasota.org\, 941-955-4263 or email the Sarasota Ministerial Association President\, Rev. Dr. Tom Pfaff at ChaplainTomPfaff@Gmail.com. \nClick here to watch a short trailer of the Pilgrimage:\n \nClick here for the 2025 Facebook event page:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/928069576812372 \nDirections\nFor those who would like to park at the final Station location (Church of the Redeemer at 222 S. Palm Ave.)\, the Siesta Trolley will transport you to Regal Hollywood Theatre from Redeemer starting at 6 a.m. There is street parking at Redeemer or park at Redeemer s Strawberry Hill parking lot\, on the Southeast corner of S. Palm Ave. and Ringling Blvd.\, or there is second floor Public parking across the street from the front steps of the United Methodist Church 104 S. SUMMARY:Monallo's new album release "Moon And Machine" April 10\, 7 pm. PG Woman's Club\, 118 Sullivan St\, PG\,FL
DESCRIPTION:Moon and Machine\, a soulful soundtrack for wanderers\, dreamers and horizon-chasers. \nMoon and Machine is a luminous\, groove driven album that feels like a postcard from the edge of escape – where crashing waves meet restless ambition\, and modern life collides with the call of the horizon. These songs represent a passion for the ocean\, for relaxation\, for escaping the troubles of modern life and seeing all the amazing places the world has to offer. “It’s about passing that message to those who feel trapped in their daily routine – and to future generations. “Let’s get out there and chase the horizon.” \nBacking frontman\, James Drakes is a world class rhythm section that gives Monallo its unmistakable live energy: \nVeteran drummer/percussionist Alan Jax Bowers\, whose credits include working with the Coral Reefer Band\, Earth\, Wind and Fire\, Tedeschi Trucks Band\, Matchbox Twenty\, Kenny Rogers and many more. \nAnd Sydney-born guitarist Pete “Pirate Pete” Robertson\, with over 30 years of touring and recording experience alongside artists connected to AC/DC\, Aerosmith\, Joan Jett’s Band\, The Cult and beyond. \nTogether\, they deliver a sound that blends alternative folk-rock warmth with beach-soaked grooves\, Americana storytelling and a touch of island swing.\nAt its heart\, Moon and Machine is about contrast – the organic and the mechanical\, the tides and the traffic\, the moonlit calm and the daily grind. It’s music for those sitting at a desk with one eye out the window\, already halfway to the coast. \nSpecial Guests – Eric Erdrman and Greg Mihaly \nTickets available at www.monallomusic.com/tickets. \nPrice: General Admission: USD 20.00 \nArtists: Monallo\, James Drakes\, Alan Jax Bowers\, Pirate Pete Robertson\, Eric Erdman\, Greg Mihaly \nCategory: Community \nDate and Time: Friday April 10\, 2026 at 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm \nVenue details: Punta Gorda Woman’s Club Building\, 118 Sullivan Street\, Punta Gorda\, Florida\, 33950\, United States
