SUMMARY:Island City Stage presents the East Coast Premiere of Everything Beautiful Happens at Night
DESCRIPTION:From writer Ted Malawer (Red\, White\, & Royal Blue)\, Carbonell and Silver Palm Award-winning director Bruce Linser\, and featuring stunning illustrations by multi-award-winning artist Bong Redila\, Everything Beautiful Happens at Night is a tender\, funny\, and moving story about the life you have\, the life you want\, and who stays when the world gets quiet. Tickets are on sale now for Island City Stage’s East Coast premiere of the play which runs April 2- 26. \nEzra is a closeted children’s book author. Nancy is his fiercely loyal editor. Their creative partnership has shaped stories that delight generations. But when writer’s block pushes Ezra far past deadlines to deliver his latest book\, a new voice enters the conversation and begins to change Ezra’s life\, inspiring a controversial ending to Chipmunk and Squirrel\, and testing the limits of his friendship with Nancy. \nAs a former literary agent for children’s book authors\, then as an editor of children’s books\, and ultimately as a children’s book author and novelist\, himself\, Ted Malawer has spun a tale close to home. Everything Beautiful Happens at Night was partially inspired by his childhood LGBTQ author heroes Maurice Sendak (“Where the Wild Things Are”) and Arnold Lobel (“Frog and Toad” books). The play held its world premiere at Capital Stage in Sacramento\, California\, in early 2025 and its second U.S. staging brings it to the award-winning Island City Stage in Wilton Manors\, Florida. \nIsland City Stage’s production of Everything Beautiful Happens at Night\, directed by Linser\, stars Christopher Dreeson as Ezra\, Laura Turnbull as Nancy\, and Aidan Paul as Jake. \nEverything Beautiful Happens at Night co-producers are Russell Vance\, Michael Mullins and Terry Gaw; Lights and Sound Sponsor is Scott Bennett; Talent Sponsors are Paul Rolli & Bennett Quade and Robert Lee; Costume Sponsors are Rita Cassady and John Colemen; Set Sponsors are Margie & Trevor Fried; and Illustrations Sponsor is DC Allen & Ken Flick No Gay Hate Fund at Our Fund. Additional funding is provided by the following: The Our Fund Foundation\, The Schubert Foundation Inc.\, the SHS Foundation\, the Warten Foundation\, and OutClique. \nIndividual show tickets start at $45. A Mimosa Sunday performance sponsored by John Fomook and Charles Lee will take place on April 12. A special Women’s Night at the Theatre sponsored by Barbara Signer and Fran Epstein will take place on April 24. The show runs for one hour and 40 minutes with no intermission. \nIsland City Stage believes that theatre should belong to the next generation of storytellers\, artists\, and audiences. Its new “30 Under 30” initiative invites patrons ages 18–29 to experience award-winning\, professional theatre for just $30 per ticket (plus taxes & fees; subject to availability on Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday matinees). Limit one ticket per patron per production. A government-issued photo ID will be required at will call. When ordering online\, use discount code “30U30.” \nFor more information and to purchase tickets\, visit www.islandcitystage.org\, call (954) 928-9800 or email boxoffice@islandcitystage.org. SUMMARY:Supermarket
DESCRIPTION:SUPERMARKET examines identity through the tension between the physical and nonphysical. The work questions where humanity resides and how much of it can be accessed through the external alone. When only the surface is offered\, a sense of absence emerges\, revealing how humanity exists beyond the physical\, even as much of daily interaction remains skin-deep. The exhibition includes large-scale portraiture and handmade masks that function as forms of containment and translation. Influenced by the 1970s to 1990s alternative\, club\, and queer culture\, the work considers how identity forms through repetition\, exposure\, and the systems we move through daily\, implicitly shaping and nourishing us. From this position\, Cook steps out of concealment and into authorship. \nThis is a Weekly Recurring Event\nRuns from Apr 8\, 2026 to Apr 30\, 2026 and happens every:\nTuesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nWednesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nThursdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nFridays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nSaturdays: 10:00am – 4:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)

Satriani’s studio and live recordings have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide to date\, and of his many solo albums\, two have gone platinum and four others have gone gold\, with 15 Grammy nominations between them. He launched his annual “G4 Experience” in 2014\, bringing aspiring guitarists together for four days of workshops\, mentor sessions\, and live performances\, providing an exclusive learning platform led by him and his accomplished peers. In 2021\, he introduced the “Crystal Planet” comic series\, a five-part opus interweaving the realms of music and art. The tour documentary “Beyond the Supernova\,” directed by ZZ Satriani and currently available for streaming\, offers an intimate behind-the-scenes glimpse that intricately chronicles his life\, illuminating the profound dedication that fuels his guitar mastery. His side project\, Chickenfoot\, featuring former Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar\, former bassist Michael Anthony and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith saw their debut album certified gold and their second studio album debuted at #9. Satriani released his 19th studio album\, The Elephants of Mars\, in April 2022. It was a busy 2024 for Joe Satriani as he embarked on the highly anticipated G3 Reunion tour alongside the original powerhouse line-up: Satriani\, Eric Johnson\, and Steve Vai. This was followed by the Satch/Vai duo tour\, where the longtime friends not only shared the stage but also unveiled a new musical collaboration together. Rounding out the year\, Satriani joined forces with Sammy Hagar\, Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham for the Best of All Worlds tour\, which sold out arenas nationwide and was met with widespread fan and critical acclaim. \nAbout Steve Vai \nSteve Vai is a virtuoso guitarist\, composer and producer\, considered by many as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. In over 45 years in the industry\, Vai has sold over 15 million records\, received three Grammy Awards\, and recorded with music legends like Frank Zappa\, David Lee Roth\, White snake and many more. Vai has also toured extensively and recorded live projects with G3 (collaborating with different touring lineups including Joe Satriani\, John Petrucci\, Eric Johnson\, Yngwie Malmsteen\, and Steve Lukather) and Generation Axe\, a supergroup Vai formed with Zakk Wylde\, Yngwie Malmsteen\, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi. Vai is the author of Vaideology: Basic Music Theory for Guitar Players (Hal Leonard)\, his inaugural music theory book designed to help both beginners and veteran guitar players. In the recent past\, he has travelled the globe supporting his most recent studio album Inviolate\, staging performances in 51 counties across the globe. Over the course of his 43 years touring\, he continues to visit locations for the first time. His final excursion in 2023 saw Vai perform in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam)\, Kaohsiung (Taiwan)\, Zallak (Bahrain)\, Bangalore and Kolkata (India)\, alongside six new markets in China (Foshan\, Xi’an\, Chengdu\, Chongqing\, Nanjing and Hefei). In 2024\, BEAT (Adrian Belew\, Tony Levin\, Danny Carey\, Steve Vai) staged 65 North American appearances. The ensemble will travel to South America for additional performances in 2025. \nAbout Animals As Leaders \nAnimals As Leaders is an American instrumental progressive metal band formed in Washington\, D.C. in 2007 by virtuoso guitarist Tosin Abasi. Joined by Javier Reyes on eight-string guitars and Matt Garstka on drums\, the band has redefined the boundaries of metal and progressive music with their innovative compositions and technical mastery. Their sound seamlessly fuses metal\, jazz fusion\, classical\, and electronic elements into a style that defies traditional genre labels. \nSince their 2009 self-titled debut—an early landmark of the “djent” movement—the band has continued to push musical li
