SUMMARY:The Barefoot Mailman and Post Office Murals w/ Dr. Keri Watson
DESCRIPTION:The Barefoot Mailman and Post Office Murals \nJoin us in person for a fun dive into Florida history! Discover the tales of the Barefoot Mailman and marvel at the beautiful Post Office Murals that capture the spirit of the past. Perfect for history buffs and curious minds alike. Dont miss this cool event where stories and art come alive! \nPost office murals are visible and enduring symbols of New Deal ideology that provide lasting evidence of governmental art patronage during the Great Depression. Not just for picking up mail or sending packages\, during the 1930s post offices offered a place to meet neighbors and catch up on news. In Florida\, 16 new post offices were built between 1937 and 1943\, and each was decorated with murals or relief sculptures paid for by the Treasury Departments Section of Painting and Sculpture. This presentation discusses the West Palm Beach post offices exciting mural series featuring Floridas Barefoot Mail Carrier\, its subject\, and how it fits into the Great Depressions larger mural project.Date and Time: Mon\, 13 Jul 2026 18:00 – Mon\, 13 Jul 2026 19:00 \nVenue details: Lake Wales Public Library\, 290 Cypress Garden Lane\, Lake Wales\, Florida\, 33853\, United States \nCategory: Community | Libraries

SUMMARY:Build\, Break\, Bridge
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Luna Goldberg \nThis exhibition traces Luke Jenkins’ sustained exploration of material as both subject and collaborator. Bringing together works created over the last decade\, the show highlights his ongoing experimentation with wood. Over time\, Jenkins has developed a practice rooted in experimentation\, in which wood is reclaimed\, reshaped\, and tested through a wide range of techniques\, from CNC carving and thermal modification to inventive joinery\, sandblasting\, and even the interventions of termites. His work continually asks what materials can do\, how they change under pressure\, and how their transformations might open up new ways of making. Jenkins’ projects move fluidly between the functional and the conceptual. At times\, scraps are reimagined into benches\, tables\, or wall pieces; elsewhere\, termite-eaten planks or weathered ash panels become sculptural surfaces that speak to decay\, resilience\, and renewal. By embracing both craft and chance\, utility and experimentation\, Jenkins’ practice unfolds as an ongoing dialogue with his materials—one that reflects the passage of time\, the forces of nature\, and the possibilities of transformation. \nThis is a Weekly Recurring Event\nRuns from Jul 24\, 2026 to Sep 19\, 2026 and happens every:\nTuesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nWednesdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nThursdays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nFridays: 10:00am – 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nSaturdays: 10:00am – 4:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)
