Royal Dames of Cancer Research, Inc. will host its 56th Annual Tiara Ball Gala on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. The nonprofit organization’s signature annual fundraiser will bring together community leaders, philanthropists and supporters for an evening of entertainment and philanthropy in support of its mission to fund cancer research.

This year’s “Dancing Queens”-themed gala will transport guests to an evening inspired by the timeless music of ABBA and the 1980s. Attendees will enjoy a special “Mamma Mia!”-themed performance featuring three Broadway performers, along with an appearance by Tony Dovolani of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” The evening will also feature fine dining, dancing and exclusive live auction experiences while bringing guests together to support advancements in cancer research.

Chaired by Bonnie Mitten, the Tiara Ball serves as Royal Dames of Cancer Research’s primary annual fundraiser, bringing the South Florida community together to support cancer research at Nova Southeastern University (NSU).

For more than five decades, Royal Dames of Cancer Research has united dedicated volunteers and community supporters in its mission to fund cancer research. Since its founding in 1969, the organization has contributed more than $7.68 million, including $1 million in 2025, in support of cancer research at NSU.

Royal Dames of Cancer Research traces its history to Dr. Joel Warren’s request for $250,000 to support cancer research. Warren approached Fort Lauderdale resident Theresa Castro, who was inspired to create an organization dedicated to funding cancer research. One hundred of Castro’s friends each pledged $2,500, leading to the creation of Royal Dames of Cancer Research, Inc. in 1969. The organization continues to support cancer research in pursuit of a cure.
