Susan Colton taught in public school classrooms and served as a highly respected, nationally recognized principal for thirty-two years. She is a speaker, trainer, and facilitator specializing in building positive relationships with diverse communities and putting students “at the top of the organizational chart.” She also served as Director of Leadership Development for Broward County Public Schools, the nation’s sixth-largest school district. In 1999, Colton received the Florida Commissioner’s Award for Outstanding Leadership. In 2000, she was named a National Distinguished Principal, representing the state of Florida in our nation’s capital. In 2013, the Broward Education Foundation selected Colton as one of seven inaugural Hall of Fame Distinguished Alumni and received her granite star on the Walk of Fame outside district headquarters. In 2018, Colton published her book, Principal’s Passion: A Quest for Quality Public Education. An Adjunct Professor at Broward College from 2018-2022, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Broward Education Foundation and Chairs the Innovative Teacher Committee. Colton is the president of the Broward County Retired Educators Association and a member of the Legislative Team for the Florida Retired Educators Association. She proudly serves on the Education Board for the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce.
