Hawks Cay Resort: A Gem in the Middle Keys

The luxury destination in Duck Key is a perfect getaway for South Floridians.

Meant for those who love the ocean, the sand, magical sunsets and sunrises, the Florida Keys are the place to go for an escape and to experience all of that and so much more. Located in Duck Key, the Hawks Cay Resort is one worth visiting for those who want to relax and to simply enjoy an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. From South Florida, the Middle Keys is a beautifully visual road trip. For those traveling from elsewhere, it’s worth making plans and taking the trip because staying here is a soothing experience for all.

Below are some highlights of what you can expect from a stay at this unique resort and your visit to the area.

Delicious Dining, a Rum Bar and Tropical Cocktails

Hawks Cay Resort knows how to impress those who wish to check out some great dining and some refreshing beverages.

The Marketplace, a casual grab and go spot, does not leave visitors and travelers down at all with their offerings. You can grab a quick bagel, a sandwich, sodas and juices, champagne and wine, beer…anything you need to have for your room or even for adventures by the water. The best part is that if you plan to leave property for a day or a few hours, they can prepare a lunchbox to-go that will keep you nourished throughout the day. How thoughtful is that?

Let’s talk breakfast. While The Marketplace is great and useful for a quick bite, the breakfast at the upscale restaurant Sixty-One Prime is amazing for those who want something a little fancier. Think fresh omelets, bacon and eggs made your way, and other delicious options. Not only is it available, but besides freshly brewed coffee, you can also indulge in a Mimosa or Bloody Mary.

At night, Sixty-One Prime transforms into a restaurant that offers perfectly cut steaks and fresh fare such as a variety of seafood to choose from. The bar is cozy and offers classic cocktails as well as a vast selection of upscale spirits such as Don Julio, Johnnie Walker Black and Ketel One vodka. We recommend a nightcap there before heading to your room for the night. Make sure to make a reservation the day before for this restaurant. That way, you can get a table and enjoy the experience.

Speaking of cocktails, we have some recommendations of where to find some great ones with a view. there are two breezy bars located at Hawks Cay Resort. One of them is the Tiki Grill located poolside. You can bask in the breeze from the ocean while enjoying a great margarita, for example, or tropical drink. And, if you are hungry, they offer sandwiches and other delicious food options. Also, Coral Grill Food & Drinks offers bites for the whole family and is perfectly located by the kids and family pool known as the Pirate Pool.

One of my favorites to visit at the resort was the Pilar Rum Bar. Not only am I a rum gal, but the bar has an amazing view of the ocean, and the breeze is perfect. It’s the perfect open-air bar, where the bartenders are not only knowledgeable about the rum and friendly but also make one of the best Mai Tais I’ve had in a while. I highly recommend it!

Lastly, let’s talk about a very special gem. The restaurant had me thinking about it past my visit. This one is called Angler and Ale, and you can access it quickly by requesting a ride on a golf cart that will take you there and back. This restaurant offers diners the chance to sit dockside while basking in the Keys breeze or indoors, where a vast bar greets you and an expansive dining room. The chef was amazing and passionate about his craft. We recommend the ahi tuna tacos and the surf and turf, two of the items we were very lucky to eat and try out that evening. You won’t regret the visit.

Come for the Comfortable Rooms and Stay for the Adventurous Experiences

Hawks Cay Resort not only offers delicious dining and cocktail experiences, but it is also a place where you can have seaside adventures of your own.

Dolphin Connection is one of the resort’s on-site experiences that will surprise you and make you happy, especially when it’s such a unique time to be had. There, you will be greeted by on-property dolphins that are taken care of at the resort and learn about their backgrounds, as well as about the history of dolphins and everything you can imagine about these amazing creatures and the importance of conservation. Also, you can enjoy a Royal Experience where you get to swim with the dolphins and an experience dockside where you can greet the dolphins and they even paint and create art for you to take home. This, to me, was the best! Make sure to visit and look at their packages for you and the whole family.

Besides the immersive experience with dolphins, the resort also offers paddleboarding, cabana rentals, fishing, and other watersports such as scuba diving. We are sure one of their on-property friendly concierges will make sure to book whatever experience your heart desires. There are many adventures to be had and enjoy at Hawks Cay.

One of the best parts of Hawks Cay Resort? Their amazing rooms! The hotel boasts a variety of them, and some of the standout ones offer a vast balcony perfect to watch the sunrise and sunset from with comfortable deck chairs that you can lay on and bask in the sun, or even two other chairs that invite visitors to grab a drink outside in their room or to take a moment to relax and read. This one is the type of room for those that are looking for the most relaxation during their stay. Villas and Penthouse suites are also an option for those looking for something upscale or for a special celebration.

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands.
