Elegance and Flavor Unite for a Luxurious Brunch Experience at Amelia’s 1931

It is held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday.

Fans of an elegant and flavorful brunch in a vintage setting may want to take a trip down South to the Miami Area. Amelia’s 1931 promises to deliver the ideal brunch dining experience. Tucked away in a somewhat concealed corner of a traditional South Florida strip mall, this enigmatic restaurant will certainly exceed expectations. Upon stepping through the restaurant’s doors, guests are welcomed by a speakeasy ambiance that authentically captures the essence of the past with its Victorian-era décor.

Not only will you be surprised by the restaurant’s look, but you will enjoy passing through the entrance, where a vintage washing machine greets you. Then, you will pass through clothes hung as drying laundry above the hostess stand.

At Amelia’s 1931, the creative look of the interior is not the only thing that stands out; the creative cuisine and cocktails also stand out.

The restaurant is led by a well-known Miami chef, Eileen Andrade. His passion for his craft has allowed Amelia’s 1931 to not only be and stay successful throughout its tenure, now at six months but the events and ideas just keep evolving, making diners hungry to visit and try out the newest flavors and experiences at the hot spot.

Launched on February 18, their Boujee Brunch offers a great selection of dishes and cocktails that are simply as sophisticated as they are unique. The experience is one that won’t be forgotten once you try it, and you will be happy that the dinnertime establishment now offers a weekend daytime option to indulge.

The menu offers delicious items such as Cuban Croque Madame, Islas Canarias ham croquetas on grilled sourdough with gruyere, huancaina and topped with a sunny side up egg; Chicken & Biscuits with kimchi jam, fish sauce caramel and Japanese pickles; Timba Pancakes, which consists of three buttermilk pancakes with leche condensada, toasted coconut and guava marmalade. All dishes feature definite Latin flavors, flavors that are well-represented and authentic.

My favorite dish, the one I selected during the visit, was the Braised Lechon Has. It features a tender braised pork shoulder and aji Amarillo Yukon hash topped with sawmill gravy, sunny-side-up eggs, and chives. It’s the type of dish that is not only filling but also makes you finish up the plate just like you would in Abuela’s house, a fact that would make her extremely proud.

Now, let’s talk about the cocktails. Led by the corporate beverage director, Alex Aportela, the 13 spirited modern and classic concoctions also include a zero-proof drink. All the beverages pair perfectly with the brunch menu, so make sure you ask the knowledgeable servers what you should drink to go with your meal.

Two that I recommend you try out that are only available on the brunch menu are Pump Up the Jams, which consists of clarified milk punch, Legent bourbon, Peruvian Alpine Blueberry, creamy peanut butter, fresh lemon juice, and a touch of sugar. Then there’s the inventive Agua Bendita, a fantastic cocktail featuring corporate beverage director Alex Aportela. The list includes 13 spirited modern and classic concoctions and a zero-proof drink. A couple of must-tries, only served during brunch, are Pump Up the Jams – clarified milk punch, Legent bourbon, Peruvian Alpine Blueberry, creamy peanut butter, fresh lemon juice, and a touch of sugar. Then there’s the impressive Agua Bendita, which mixes the flavors of Haku Vodka, Korean Sojo, coconut water, watermelon juice, a dash of bubbly water, lemon juice with cherry bark vanilla bitters, and sugar’s sweetness.

Make sure you plan a trip to Amelia’s 1931. You will thank yourself for visiting a unique spot that proudly offers a classy, upscale brunch experience.

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico.
