Yasmin Harebin (main photo), a rising senior in the Law Magnet program at Fort Lauderdale High, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2024 summer internship by the Conrad & Scherer Pathways to Careers in Law program. Harebin emerged as the top choice from a pool of 14 applicants and will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience by working at the firm.
“I’ve heard from past interns that this will be an amazing opportunity,” Harebin says.
As a Fellow, she gained valuable insight into the legal field through interactions with judges and attorneys and visits to the Conrad & Scherer offices and local courthouses.
“I especially enjoyed visiting the NSU law school and participating in a mock law class,” she says. “Meeting so many professionals solidified my desire to pursue a legal career. My analytical skills make law a great fit for me.”
Jordyn Minnis, a 2023 program Fellow, will be returning for her second summer internship.
Aneya Williams, the oldest of eight siblings raised by a single parent in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has been granted the four-year Conrad & Scherer Pathways Scholarship by the program. This fall, she will attend NSU to pursue a bachelor’s degree in law, with the long-term aspiration of becoming a criminal defense attorney.
“I am grateful for the Conrad & Scherer Scholarship, which will not only help lift the financial burden but allow me to further my education and make positive changes in the community,” she says.
Conrad & Scherer’s Pathways to Careers in Law program, now entering its third year, is a partnership between Conrad & Scherer, Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law (NSU Law), and Fort Lauderdale High School’s Law Magnet program. Every fall, students in the law magnet program can apply to become Pathways Fellows. Currently, 38 students have successfully completed the program, and three of them are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in law at NSU.
“There’s no greater thrill than seeing the law career pipeline we’ve created begin to fill with so many bright students,” Janine McGuire says, a partner with Conrad & Scherer. “This collaboration with Fort Lauderdale High and NSU will make a meaningful difference in the future of our profession.”
