Florida Emancipation Day

On May 20,1865, 11 days after the end of the Civil War, and two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Lincoln, Union General Edward M McCook read the Proclamation ending enslavement in the state of Florida. Come celebrate this historic event on May 16, 10am-12pm, at the Blanchard House Museum, located at 406 Dr. MLKing, Jr. Blvd., Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
