Amy Schatzmann, a 2017 graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University, is not only a coffee drinker, she’s a coffee entrepreneur on campus with Seaside Brew.

“I knew all along I’d love to own my own business someday,” she says. “Also being a coffee importer, I would be able to help the economic stability of coffee farmers.”

The idea of becoming a coffee importer came to her one day while she was at school. “I was sitting in my dorm and thought to myself, ‘Why is there no specialty coffee here on campus?’ ”

She turned that question into a reality. She made inquiries and contacted school administrators and officials to get the ball—actually, wheels—rolling. She sells imported specialty coffee from a tricycle. “I got the bike and hit the road running,” she says. “It’s got two wheels in the front and one in the back. It’s electric.”

Her coffee is imported from Honduras, but she is working on importing coffee from Costa Rica.

Schatzmann majored in finance at school, and also works 20 hours a week in that field. She has three employees working the cart while she’s at her other job.
