City Furniture recently hosted the first Green City Summit at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale to help local businesses implement more environmentally-sustainable practices to lessen pollution in the county. Attendees included Andrew Koenig, CEO of City Furniture and Adam Berg, NBC6 Meteorologist. Featured keynote speakers were Silvia M. Garrigo, Chief ESG Officer of the Royal Caribbean Group and Dr. Jennifer Jurado, Chief Resiliency Officer from the Broward County Government.
The Green City Summit was hosted as part of CITY’s 2040 Green Promise initiative, which aims to have all domestic operations carbon neutral for the furniture retailer by 2040. The company strikes to make green choices, including delivery trucks running on compressed natural gas and recycling millions of pounds of waste annually.
Industry experts led panel discussions during the summit on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), fleet emissions, recycling, sustainable products, efficient packaging and how to take action toward a more resilient future. The day’s events ended with an awards dinner for local champions in environmental efficiency, with the following CITY employees recognized and awarded for their green efforts:
- Outstanding Achievement in Fleet Support – Sandor Szabo, Lead Tech
- CNG Green Excellence Award – Richard Lowe, Senior Fleet Manager
- Outstanding Green Facilities Leader – Alejandra Morales, Facilities Coordinator
- Green Leader of the Year – Dave Clevenger, Senior VP of Fleet & DC Maintenance
