Senator Nan Rich was first elected as Broward County Commissioner, District 1 in 2016 and re-elected, unopposed, in 2020. She was recently selected by her colleagues on the County Commission to be the Mayor of Broward County through November 2024. Her top priority has been addressing the affordable housing crisis in Broward, as well as ending homelessness through affordable housing. Prior to her service on the County Commission, Rich was elected to the State Senate in 2004 after serving two terms in the Florida House of Representatives. She was recognized as one of the most passionate and dedicated members of the Florida Legislature, and she was the first woman to be elected Senate Democratic Leader – a position she held from 2010 until she was term-limited in November 2012. In addition to her work on the County Commission, Senator Rich currently serves as the President of the Area Agency on Aging of Broward County, Chair of the Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, and Chair of the Coordinating Council of Broward County.
