2024 Diversity & Inclusion Awards Honoree: Spirit Airlines

The South Florida-based airline exceeded the air transportation industry averages for diversified and increased gender representation, including female director representation.

Spirit Airlines is proud to be recognized for its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging (DEI&B) efforts for SFBW’s 2024 Diversity & Inclusion Awards. Spirit is committed to creating opportunities for its Team Members to thrive in a diverse and inclusive environment, allowing the Spirit Family to bring their true, authentic self to the workplace and reach their potential. The South Florida-based airline implemented strategies in four areas: Grow Community Outreach & Social Responsibility, Ensure Equitable & Inclusive Total Rewards, Creating an Environment of Inclusion for All, and Foster Belonging Through Representation. In 2023, Spirit exceeded the air transportation industry averages for diversified and increased gender representation, including female director representation, increasing 13% from the previous year. Additionally, Spirit supported its seven Team Member Resource Groups that empower Women, Black, LGBTQIA+, Asian, Latinx, Veteran, and Third Culture Individual Team Members and their allies. The airline also expanded the uniform and image standards policy to all Flight Attendants and Guest Service Agents, allowing these Team Members to dress in ways they feel best represent their identities. Lastly, the Spirit Charitable Foundation donated $490,000 to DEI&B–focused nonprofits that serve underrepresented communities through the Spirit Charitable Foundation in 2023.

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.
