CITY Furniture Celebrates 51 Years in Business

To honor over a half-century of being one of South Florida’s top furniture retailers, CITY Furniture is celebrating its 51st Anniversary in 2022 with a unique drawing sweepstakes. The random drawing contest will award one lucky entrant a $51,000 CITY Furniture shopping spree.

“We are so excited to be celebrating our 51st Anniversary and to offer this incredible sweepstakes opportunity to the community who has supported us throughout the years,” Andrew Koenig says, CEO of CITY Furniture. “We wouldn’t be where we are without our incredible customer base, and look forward to awarding the grand prize winner with a spectacular home makeover that can change their life.”

The winner will win a home makeover valued at $51,000. Known as a furniture retailer that features trends with prices you can afford, the sweepstakes allows people to shop for everything from mattresses and bedding to living room, dining room, kitchen, kids/nursery and outdoor furniture. CITY offers a vast inventory of inspirational collections and home accents that can fit any style and make any room feel brand new.

CITY Furniture is one of the top 20 largest employers in Florida, with more than 2,900 associates from Miami to Orlando and soon to be in Tampa. The 51st Anniversary celebrates a family-owned business rooted in South Florida by two brothers, Keith and Kevin Koenig. CEO Andrew Koenig and his team are now carrying on his legacy.

“It’s hard to believe CITY’s 51st anniversary is around the corner, and I am so proud to have been part of the last 43 years of growth,” Lynne Guzman says, a long-time associate of CITY’s Document Retention Department.

CITY’s roots date back to the 1970s when it opened its first Waterbed City store in Fort Lauderdale in 1971. The store was later converted into CITY Furniture in 1994 and over the years, the company has evolved into a leading furniture and home accents destination. It now features 22 showrooms across Florida and an expansive e-commerce site.

“We look forward to continuing to provide quality home furnishings at excellent values, to innovatively and sustainably create beautiful homes and do our part in making the world a better place,” Andrew Koenig says.

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico.
