Coral Gables Welcomes New Japanese Eatery: Osumi Sushi Bar

Coral Gables Welcomes New Japanese Eatery: Osumi Sushi Bar

Coral Gables is now home to a stylish new dining spot in Giralda Plaza. Osumi Sushi Bar, which translates to “dwell” in Japanese, offers a sophisticated Japanese dining experience with a hint of Latin influence. The interior features natural elements such as wood and greenery, creating a peaceful Zen atmosphere. Outside, a spacious patio provides the perfect setting for people-watching along the pedestrian-only avenue.

Osumi’s “Executive Lunch” menu, priced at $20 for an entrée and beverage or $26 for an appetizer, entrée, and beverage, is ideal for a relaxing lunch with friends or colleagues. During Happy Hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., guests can enjoy a selection of $7 cocktails and small bites. In the evening, Osumi offers an elegant setting for a romantic night out, featuring sake, nigiri, and Wagyu.

The Osumi Sushi Bar menu also boasts a harmonious blend of signature rolls, traditional sushi, and Asian-inspired main dishes. The Osumi Sushi Roll, named after the restaurant, is made with shrimp tempura, avocado, Hamachi, Japanese acevichada and crispy quinoa furikake. Starters showcase the restaurant’s unique approach to ingredients, with dishes like the Shishito Ponzu, featuring shishito peppers, Andean corn, sesame ponzu, and crunchy bonito flakes.

Standout savory entrees include the Shrimp Furrita, featuring shrimp tempura topped with yuzu garlic aioli served on a bed of steamed rice, the Gochudare Ribs, which are Gochujang-based pork ribs served with yuzu coleslaw, the Surf & Turf Maki consisting of shrimp tempura, lobster, and avocado with Wagyu and Japanese teriyaki, and the signature Osumi Steak served with escabeche beans and sautéed vegetables.

Osumi Sushi Bar takes pride in its extensive cocktail menu, curated by The Garnish’s co-founders and renowned mixologists Andy Cabrera and Loiver Hernandez Crespo. Notable cocktails on offer include the Lychee Highball, made with Canaima Gin, dry vermouth, lychee, citrus, absinthe, and bubbles, as well as the Ibaraki Sour, a blend of Ichiiko Saiten Shoshu, Midori, sugar, lime, and creamy Yuzu foam. The bar also features an impressive array of Japanese whiskies, including the revered Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky and Hibiki Japanese Harmony, alongside a selection of Amaro Montenegro, Ume Plum Liquor, Sake, and other fine spirits and wines.

Drew Limsky

Editor-in-Chief

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico. His other clients have included Four Seasons, Acqualina Resort & Residences, Yahoo!, American Airlines, Wynn, Douglas Elliman and Corcoran. As an adjunct assistant professor, Limsky has taught journalism, film and creative writing at the City University of New York, Pace University, American University and other colleges.
