In My Own World: The NAEMI Collection

The Art and Culture Center/Hollywood partnered with National Art Exhibitions of the Mentally Ill (NAEMI) to present a month-long art exhibition — In My Own World: The NAEMI Collection– to raise mental health awareness in South Florida and spark conversations on mental health and healthcare.

\’In My Own World – The NAEMI Collection\’ art exhibition runs January 18 to February 23, 2025, with VIP Opening Reception on January 25, 2025 from 5pm to 8pm.

· The In My Own World exhibit features over 50 works of art—paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photography—created by more than 20 Outsider artists from around the globe who have coped with mental illness, using creativity as a powerful tool for healing and communication.

· Artists include Candice Avery, Alan Arkley, Misleidys Castillo Pedroso, Jorge A. Hernandez Cadi \”El Buzo,\” Gloria de la Caridad Garcia, Isaac Crespo, Ramon Losa, Echo McCallister, Mario Mesa, Pablo Morales, Martha Iris Perez Santana, and Damian Valdes.

· This exhibition is co-curated by Exhibitions Curator Jodi Sypher and Curatorial Assistant Charles Jackson Adkins Jr. The exhibition is generously supported by NAEMI’s Executive Director Juan Martin, and CEO of Broward Behavioral Health Coalition Silvia Quintana.

· The art exhibit would not be made possible without the help from organizations like Broward Behavioral Health Coalition (BBHC) Inc., which provides a comprehensive system of care for substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders for individuals in Broward County.

· Sponsors include Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, Inc. (BBHC), United Way of Broward County, Broward County Cultural Division, Funding Arts Broward (FAB), Janssen, and Sunshine Health.
