NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER Sarasota

Every year Americans are invited to pray during the first Thursday in May to take part in the annual National Day of Prayer. Tens of thousands of prayer gatherings hosted from coast to coast unite in worship with a national theme. This, year on May 7, the 2026 theme calls us to, “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations.” It is inspired by a passionate prayer of Thanksgiving, prayed by King David in 1 Chronicles 16 after bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This chapter records Israel celebrating the return of the Ark after being separated from them 70 years earlier. The moving of God’s Holy Spirit on college campuses, and especially among young 18- to 30-year-olds in congregations today, heralds this sense of return.
