Finalists Announced for 13th Annual Community Care Plan Nonprofit Awards

The ceremony aims to celebrate the remarkable work of nonprofit agencies in Broward County.

211 Broward recently announced its 13th Annual Community Care Plan NonProfit Awards finalists during a VIP Announcement livestreaming Show and Reception at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale. The awards show, which will be presented by Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and hosted by 211 Broward, is set to take place on March 5 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, complete with a red carpet and searchlights for a glamorous feel.

The upcoming event aims to celebrate the remarkable work of nonprofit agencies in Broward County and acknowledge the outstanding efforts of their executives and board leaders. Leon Mink, the Chief Information Officer at Community Care Plan, and Milin Espino, an MBA holder and Administrative Director of Community Relations at Memorial Healthcare System, will co-chair this year’s event.

“It is so important for us to support 211 Broward and those whose efforts continue to inspire and make a positive impact throughout Broward County,” says Jessica Lerner, President and CEO of Community Care Plan. “This Awards Event is something we very much look forward to year after year, and we can’t wait to celebrate the accomplishments of the county’s nonprofit organizations during the event on Mar. 5.” 

Awards will be presented in eight categories. All other nominees will also be eligible for the JM Family Enterprises Community Choice Award. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Senator and Mayor of Broward County, Nan Rich, while Jen Klaassens, President of Jen Klaassens Consulting, will receive the Greenspoon Marder Excellence Award. The recipients in each category will be given a monetary grant of $1,000 for their nonprofit organizations by the Award partners. The finalists in each category will receive a $500 grant for their organizations.

BBX Capital Nonprofit Organization of the Year – The Arts

  • Finalists include:

  2. Art Prevails Project
  3. Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida

Truist NonProfit Organization of the Year – Collaboration

  • Finalists include:
  1. Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (Collaborating with Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County)
  2. HandsOn South Florida (Collaborating with Farm Share & City of Oakland Park)
  3. League of Women Voters of Broward County Education Fund (Collaborating with: Miami Veteran’s Administration Suicide Prevention)

Calvin, Giordano & Associates Outstanding Nonprofit Organization of the Year – Rising Star

  • Finalists include:
  1. The For Paul Foundation
  2. Showering Love
  3. WondHerful

On The Ball NonProfit Organization of the Year – Innovation

  • Finalists include:
  1. Area Agency on Aging of Broward County
  2. Heart2Heart Outreach of South Florida
  3. Morningday Community Solutions

Children’s Services Council of Broward County Collective Impact for Youth Award

  • Finalists include:
  1. David Posnack Jewish Community Center
  2. Serving with GRACE, Inc.
  3. Friendship Circle of Greater Fort Lauderdale

FPL NonProfit Board Leader of the Year

  • Finalists include:
  1. Ira Schimmel (Ann Storck Center)
  2. Stacy Angier (Broward Health)
  3. Nancy Brown (Canine Assisted Therapy)

NonProfit Staff Leader of the Year

  • Finalists include:
  1. Monica Figueroa King (Broward Healthy Start Coalition)
  2. Molly Murphy (Equine Assisted Therapies of South Florida)
  3. Scott Erlich (David Posnack Jewish Community Center)

Memorial Healthcare System Outstanding Nonprofit Organization of the Year

  • Finalists include:
  1. Early Learning Coalition of Broward County
  2. LifeNet4Families
  3. Women in Distress
