Holy Cross Hospital names new COO

Holy Cross Hospital recently announced Stonish Pierce will be COO effective Jan. 25. The president and CEO of the nonprofit Catholic hospital in Fort Lauderdale, which does business as Holy Cross Health, said Pierce has more than 22 years of experience in the healthcare industry.

Pierce is a three-time recertified Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and earned the organization’s Early Career Healthcare Executive Award and Distinguished Service Awards. Pierce earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master of Health Administration degree with a graduate certificate in management, all from USC.

“His people-centered approach and collaborative leadership style in improving healthcare delivery will be an asset to us,” Doyle said. “He shares our mission, vision and values as we continue to be a compassionate and transforming healing presence within our communities and improve the health of each person we serve.”

Pierce, who is board-certified, has healthcare experience spanning public and private hospitals. Most recently, he was System Vice President, Specialty Services for Beaumont Health, Michigan’s largest health system based on inpatient admissions and net patient revenue. During his tenure there, he recruited more than 150 physicians, co-led the transition of the physical medicine and rehabilitation residency to internal oversight, transitioned the employed hospitalist program to a value-based model, facilitated top decile divisional employee engagement and transitioned more than 700 physicians to telehealth in the midst of COVID-19. He was also Regional Chief Operating and Business Development Officer for Chicago-based Presence Health (Ascension) where his leadership resulted in the developments of the Presence Center for Cancer and Specialty Care, the Presence Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Care and Presence Pain Care. In addition, Pierce worked at San Diego-based Palomar Health (Mayo Care Network) and the VA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
