Levan Center of Innovation in Broward Forms Strategic Collaboration With Space Foundation

The Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation (Levan Center of Innovation) has formed a new strategic collaboration with the Space Foundation. The partnership will enable the Space Foundation to create programming for the Levan Center of Innovation’s LEVL5: SPACE DOCK at NSU™ initiative by using the center’s four core programs (Ideate, Incubate, Accelerate, Post-Accelerate) as the baseline.

Utilizing the resources of the Levan Center of Innovation and NSU, the LEVL5: SPACE DOCK at NSU™ promotes space entrepreneurship connecting the South Florida region to the Space Coast and the national and international space networks. It creates a collaborative environment in the space sector for industry, government, academia, entrepreneurs and investors to pursue entrepreneurial activities to advance the South Florida economy. Through the collaboration, the Space Foundation will bring to LEVL5: SPACE DOCK at NSU™ its space industry expertise to identify specific topic areas, facilitators, mentors, industry partners and sponsors. Along with core programming, a series of workshops and panel discussions will be created to increase awareness of the opportunities in the space industry.

“Our collaboration with the Space Foundation accentuates the Levan Center of Innovation’s goal to have South Florida become a major player in the global space ecosystem,” John Wensveen says, Ph.D., NSU’s Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Director of the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation.

The Space Foundation programs aim to connect the Levan Center of Innovation to the global space ecosystem and prepare its entrepreneurs to build and scale into the sector, creating jobs and spurring economic development in South Florida. Activities and programs will begin in September.

“Space and its related technologies are opening new avenues for commerce and careers,” Kelli Kedis Ogborn says, Space Foundation’s Vice President of Space Commerce and Entrepreneurship. “As a global ecosystem, space is creating jobs, driving innovation, reshaping markets, and changing lives for the better. It is a place for everyone, and we want companies and individuals to self-select into the industry and find their place within it.”

The Levan Center of Innovation is a public-private partnership between Nova Southeastern University and Broward County to serve as an economic and education development engine for South Florida focused on its three themes of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico. His other clients have included Four Seasons, Acqualina Resort & Residences, Yahoo!, American Airlines, Wynn, Douglas Elliman and Corcoran.
