The Wharf Fort Lauderdale to Reopen in Fall Following Renovations

The open-air entertainment venue will undergo upgrades in September.

The Wharf Fort Lauderdale, a popular open-air entertainment venue in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, will temporarily close as it undergoes renovations. Initially conceived as a pop-up location, these changes aim to enhance the venue and cement The Wharf Fort Lauderdale as a permanent fixture in the area. The venue is scheduled to close after Labor Day Weekend temporarily and is anticipated to reopen in Fall 2024.

The Wharf Fort Lauderdale debuted in 2019 and was first envisioned by Emi Guerra and Alex Mantecon of the Breakwater Hospitality Group. This establishment has been at the forefront of open-air waterfront venues, significantly contributing to the transformation of the New River waterfront into a top-notch entertainment hub and influencing the direction of entertainment venues in South Florida.

“We are thrilled about the future of The Wharf Fort Lauderdale,” Guerra says, co-founder of Breakwater Hospitality Group. “From its inception, The Wharf has been a vibrant gathering spot for the community, helping to revive the riverfront while creating a destination with a lot of energy and life. Growing alongside Fort Lauderdale and adapting to the downtown’s dynamic atmosphere, the upcoming renovations will blend a laid-back yet elevated experience with a refined coastal aesthetic, enhanced with new bar areas and upgraded entertainment options.”

Ahead of the renovations, The Wharf Fort Lauderdale is gearing up for a two-week celebration to mark the iconic destination’s past five years. The festivities will kick off on Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24, with the “& MORE” themed celebration featuring larger-than-life props, photo opportunities, and themed bars such as Hogwharf, Blowfish & Friends, 90s, Cinco de Mayo, and St Patrick’s Day. The party will continue into Labor Day weekend, from Thursday, Aug. 29 to Saturday, Aug. 31, with “The Closing Parties,” as the venue temporarily closes for renovations.

The Wharf has significantly impacted the popularity of open-air entertainment venues in South Florida. It has inspired similar concepts and has become a favorite spot for locals and tourists, offering live music, tropical cocktails and waterfront views. This influence has also spread to other Breakwater Hospitality Group concepts like Regatta Grove in Coconut Grove and Carousel Clubb at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, both of which promote community and connection, solidifying Breakwater Hospitality Group’s reputation for creating exceptional hospitality experiences.
