The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade announces 2021 board

The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade has a few new team members onboard to continue its mission.

The organization, which has provided $4 million of funding to support almost 500 programs serving over 75,000 women and girls throughout Miami-Dade County, recently appointed its 2021 board of directors. Newly elected board chair Gloria Romero Roses is a managing partner at Nexus Living, LLC. For the past 30 years, she has committed to building coalitions for growth in businesses within real estate, as well as advancing the common good across South Florida. She is a member of the FIU College of Business Dean’s Council, an appointee to the Miami-Dade County Affordable Housing Advisory Board, a board member of a global nonprofit, Catholics for Choice and a Rotarian.

As our community opens a new chapter in leadership at the state, county and city levels, so does The Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade,” said Romero Roses, pictured above. “At this critical juncture for response, recovery and healing, I am inspired by the resolve of this cadre of leaders to channel their time and talents into seizing this moment in history. Now more than ever, we will reinvigorate and scale our mission to drive measurable and sustained impact for the safety, well-being, economic mobility and leadership of women and girls.”

The board also named Marya Meyer, immediate past chair, as the new interim executive director. Meyer also serves as One Billion Rising’s Global Coordinator for Miami and has worked alongside high profile activists to create change since 2012. Other committee members include the following:

  • Vice-Chair: Arathi Ramappa, Executive and Spiritual Life Coach, Arathi Concepts, LLC
  • Treasurer: Joy McKenna, President, Research Management Corporation
  • Secretary: Denise Calle, Associate Attorney, Diaz Trade Law
  • Continuity: Shelley Jacoby, All In One Direct Marketing Solutions

Working under Meyer’s direction, staff members include Carolina Garcia, serving as Community Development and Outreach Director, and Viviana Alvarado Pacheco, The Women’s Fund Program Coordinator.

The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade continues to advocate for women by creating change through action, advocacy, and investing in key collaborative initiatives that generate sustainable impact in four pillars of economic mobility, leadership, health & well-being, and freedom from violence. In fact, the organization’s most recent campaign, Domestic Violence in Times of COVID-19, increases awareness of domestic violence through billboards.

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast.
