Feeding South Florida Honors Women’s History Month With Empowerment Brunch

The leading hunger relief organization in South Florida aims to provide access to nutritious food, hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transform lives through innovative programming and education.

Feeding South Florida held a Women’s Empowerment Brunch in March in honor of Women’s History Month at its Pembroke Park warehouse. The brunch’s theme, “Women as Allies for One Another,” celebrated women’s contributions and promoted solidarity. As part of the occasion, Feeding South Florida invited a group of prestigious South Florida women leaders to participate in a panel discussion, sharing their experiences and insights as members of this critical South Florida nonprofit organization. Speakers included Brittnie Bassant, president and CEO of Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce; Robyn Hankerson-Printemps, community relations manager, Publix Super Markets; and Jennifer Uzor, MD, FAAP, CEO of Allegra Family Pediatrics and Feeding South Florida board member. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the panelists.

“It was a privilege to host this powerful panel at our warehouse, comprising of some of South Florida’s top female leaders, in honor of Women’s History Month,” Paco Vélez says, president and CEO of Feeding South Florida. “Each of these women play an important role in fulfilling our mission to end hunger in South Florida. We are tremendously grateful for their support and commitment to putting food on the tables of our families.”

In South Florida, there are currently over 1.2 million individuals who are food insecure, and one out of every nine individuals in the region are uncertain about where they will obtain their next meal due to inflation, rising fuel prices, increased housing costs and the strained supply chain.
