SSL Foundation’s Hosts Annual HD Wonder Woman Scholarship Ceremony

The yearly event gathers dignitaries, elected officials, business leaders, and community advocates, emphasizing the significance of education and mentorship.

The 4th Annual Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception, hosted by the Suits, Stilettos, and Lipstick (SSL) Foundation, will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale. During this event, 10 exceptional women from Broward College will be celebrated and granted scholarships and mentorship opportunities through SSL’s Leaders Inspiring Future Trailblazers (LIFT) Mentorship Program as part of the annual SSL Day. Scholarship recipients will be matched with an SSL mentor for the year to support their personal and professional development.

“Through the Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship Awards, we celebrate not only academic achievement but also the transformative power of community support in empowering women to excel and lead,” says SSL  Founder and Chief Inspiration Officer Dr. Elizabeth King. “This event embodies our commitment to fostering a nurturing environment where every woman’s potential is recognized and supported, ensuring they have the resources and mentorship needed to thrive personally and professionally. But it’s also a testament to the enduring spirit of collaboration and generosity within our community, inspiring us all to continue making a meaningful impact in the lives of future trailblazers.”

Aug. 25, 2017, was a proud day for the SSL Foundation, as it received a proclamation and the Key to Broward County for its outstanding work in the community. Fast-forward to Aug. 25, 2021, and SSL was again recognized with a proclamation from the City of Fort Lauderdale, declaring Aug. 25 as “SSL Day in the City of Fort Lauderdale” annually.

Each scholarship recipient will be paired with an SSL mentor for the year to foster personal and professional growth. The annual gathering attracts dignitaries, elected officials, business leaders, and community advocates, highlighting the importance of education and mentorship.

Tickets for the scholarship awards ceremony are available for purchase at sslwomen.org/events/wonder-woman-scholarship. Donations are also welcomed and can be made at sslwomen.org/donate. All proceeds are tax-deductible and support SSL’s initiatives to empower women and children through education, mentorship, and community outreach.

Celebrity emcee Saira Anwer, a veteran reporter at WPLG-TV Local 10, will lead the evening’s festivities. The event’s media sponsors include WPLG-Local 10 TV and Lifestyle Media Group. The Pelican Grand Beach Resort is the title sponsor and host of the Scholarship Awards Ceremony. Dr. Elizabeth Molina, dean of academic affairs and the Education Pathway at Broward College, and Maggie Suazo, vice president and business development officer for the South Florida Region of Capital One Bank, will serve as event co-chairs. Musical accompaniment for the special evening will be provided and sponsored by Marina Laurendi.
