American Heritage Schools Continues Streak of Highest Number of National Merit Scholar Semifinalists

The private school is marking 60 years of fostering academic excellence.

American Heritage Schools revealed that 88 of its seniors from the class of 2025 have been named National Merit Scholar Semifinalists. Among them, 57 are from the Broward Campus and 31 are from the Palm Beach Campus. Additionally, 68 seniors have received National Commended Scholar status.

For 15 years, American Heritage Schools has maintained the highest number of National Merit Semifinalists in Florida. Additionally, for 11 consecutive years, American Heritage Schools has consistently ranked as the top one or two private schools in the nation with the highest number of National Merit Scholar Semifinalists.

“For the past 15 years, American Heritage Schools has consistently outshined all other schools in Florida by leading the state in National Merit Scholars,” says Dr. Douglas Laurie, president of American Heritage Schools. “This remarkable achievement reflects our commitment to academic excellence and our dedication to nurturing the brightest minds.”

American Heritage Schools’ Broward Campus is ranked as the top school in Florida and the second-ranked private school in the U.S. for the highest number of National Merit Scholar Semifinalists. The Palm Beach Campus is also the No. 1 school in Palm Beach County and the second-ranked school in Florida with the highest number of National Merit Scholar Semifinalists.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is a highly esteemed national academic competition and the most prestigious award that a senior can receive. The students from both campuses make up 9% of all semifinalists across Florida’s 2,227 public and private high schools. In the Class of 2025, one in seven students from American Heritage Schools is a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist.

In addition to the potential to receive millions of dollars in scholarships, these outstanding students are offered numerous new opportunities for their college experiences, which instills a deep sense of confidence in their prospects. According to the respected National Merit Scholarship organization, renowned institutions like Harvard, Stanford, the University of Chicago, Vanderbilt, and the University of Florida have consistently welcomed and admitted the highest number of National Merit Scholars.

American Heritage Schools also announced that 96% of its students successfully passed the AP (Advanced Placement) exams with a score of three or higher. This surpasses the 61% pass rate in Florida and the 66% global pass rate. This outstanding achievement further establishes American Heritage Schools as a top institution for college preparation nationwide. It is also the No. 1 private school in Florida for nationally recognized scholars in math competitions, science fairs, mock trials, moot courts, and speeches and debates.

His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.
