South Florida’s commuters will find some relief later this year. According to the South Florida Business Journal, Brightline is planning to continue its paused service in late 2021.
The rail company’s train stopped running in March 2020 because of the pandemic, necessitating the layoff of 250 employees. Brightline, says SFBJ, plans to rehire those employees two months before service starts up again.
SFBJ also notes that Brightline has continued expanding during the pandemic. Its Aventura station broke ground in September, and its line to Orlando continued construction. There’s also the all-important deal with Miami-Dade County that will add stations in the area.
In the meantime, residents will see some trains running as Brightline will test upgrades to its Miami and West Palm Beach corridor.
