Miami-Dade introduces program to protect landlords

[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]In a press conference this morning, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced a new county relief program will support Miami-Dade landlords with back rent.

The program is backed by $60 million of federal relief funds and supports residential landlords who have filed writs of possession with the police department.

“This relief program will provide back rent owed to these landlords with writs starting march of 2020 through the current time up to a maximum of $3,000 per month.”

Cava also announced the county will begin approving writs for commercial evictions in March. In the meantime, residential writs will continue to be paused thanks to the federal government’s moratorium on evictions.

Cava said her administration has been working with landlords and tenants’ rights groups to develop the program.

“Working together, we will continue to protect vulnerable families and to provide relief to hard-hit landlords so we can keep our community safe in this final chapter of the pandemic,” she said.

In the spring, as noted by Miami-Dade Commissioner Eileen Higgins, the county helped families pay rent with a rental assistance program she sponsored, which helped more than 7,000 families.
