FIU and Island TV Network Form Partnership

Island TV Network recently agreed to move its production department to FIU while transitioning to its permanent location in 2023. The South Florida-based network is the only television network in the U.S. offering 24-hour programming in English, French and Haitian Creole. After 20 years in North Miami, the network will relocate from its current studio to a venue three times the size in the spring of 2023.

“We’re proud of our deep-rooted organization and its impact in the Afro-Caribbean community,” Fred Beliard says, Island TV’s CEO. “As construction on our new studio completes, we could not think of a better temporary home than FIU’s School of Communication and Journalism.”

Island TV was created in 1996 to offer a vital source of information, education and entertainment for the Haitian community throughout South Florida. The programming recently expanded to cater to the broader Caribbean community.

“We are proud to partner with Island TV in support of our content-producing curriculum and experiential “learn by doing” teaching philosophy,” Brian Schriner says, dean of the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts. “This partnership advances our mission to prepare career-ready journalists and media professionals who are critical and reflective thinkers and communicators, ethical, socially responsible, well rounded, and fair-minded.”

A reception celebrating the partnership will take place on Nov. 10 at the FIU Biscayne Bay Campus. For ticket information, visit here.
