Building of Retail Complex in Westlake Commences

Construction recently began on a new retail/restaurant complex in Westlake. The Shoppes of Westlake Landings comprises two multi-tenant retail shopping centers and a pod of quick service restaurants totaling 23,000 square feet. In 2021, Minto Communities sold a seven-acre parcel within the Westlake Landings business park to Konover South, the developer.

“This project represents another sign of the maturation of our growing city,” John Carter says, senior vice president of Minto. “Soon, our residents will have a convenient place to grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee, enjoy a workout, and take care of their everyday needs.”

To date, tenants that have signed leases include Starbucks, KFC, Taco Bell, Habit Burger 3 Natives, Heartland Dental, Verizon Wireless, Go Green Cleaners and Orange Theory. Konover South expects the complex to be 100 percent leased when it opens later this fall.

The Shoppes of Westlake Landings is part of a broader building boom in Westlake, approved for 4,500 homes and 2.2 million square feet of commercial development.

In the first quarter of 2023, the new Publix at Westlake Plaza will open with a 50,000-square-foot Publix grocery store and eight new retail stores. In December 2022, Minto sold nine acres to a West Palm Beach e-commerce company, Jamlyn Supply Inc., to build an office/flex building and warehouse/distribution facility employing about 40 people.
