Sometimes, Roche Bobois’ Famed and Lesser-Known Pieces Are Best Enjoyed Sans Color

If you thought white was over in South Florida, think again. With showrooms in the Miami Design District, Aventura, Coral Gables and Palm Beach (and more than 250 locations in 55 countries in all), the iconic French furniture brand is highlighting a selection of pieces in white and cream.

The group includes pieces both familiar and unexpected: In the former category, perhaps no item represents the brand with more potency and delight as the Bubble. Conjured by Sacha Lakic (the designer most synonymous with Roche Bobois), the sofa was inspired by natural and mineral forms and is entirely handmade; its challenging shape required the development of specific stretch fabrics to wrap around its numerous curves.

Lakic’s sumptuous Astrea armchair and Apex stool, which evoke flowers, are in a similar vein. Meanwhile, Cédric Ragot (who has also collaborated with Cappellini, Rosenthal, Veuve Clicquot and even Häagen-Dazs) takes organic form in an enigmatic, more abstract direction, with his Nonette LED lamp cast in ceramic enamel with double glazing. But regardless of the piece, the absence of color allows one to study and appreciate lines, construction and texture purely.
