Amerant Bank, headquartered in Coral Gables, has recently announced a new partnership with the Overtown Youth Center (OYC Miami), a nonprofit organization offering services for at-risk youth. The partnership aims to provide year-round comprehensive services to youth, adults, and families residing in some of the most underserved neighborhoods in South Florida. The primary goal of this collaboration is to equip them with the necessary tools to attain long-term financial success.
Through their partnership, Amerant intends to utilize its financial expertise and resources to support OYC Miami’s continuous endeavors in promoting financial literacy. Amerant has been recognized as a partner in OYC Miami’s new facility, which will feature a classroom specifically designated for hosting financial literacy workshops catered towards middle school students. Additionally, the bank will have a key team member serving on the OYC Miami Board who will provide strategic insights and work closely with the organization’s dedicated team to establish and execute programs focused on encouraging financial education, budgeting skills, and responsible money management amongst the youth served by OYC Miami.
“Our partnership with the Overtown Youth Center represents a shared commitment to empower the next generation with essential financial skills,” Jerry Plush says, Chairman and CEO at Amerant Bank. “We are excited to work alongside the OYC team to make a tangible difference in the lives of these young individuals.”
OYC Miami was established in 2003 by Alonzo Mourning, a former Miami Heat player, and NBA Hall-of-Famer, and Martin Z. Margulies, a real estate developer. The organization has been a source of hope for the Overtown and neighboring Miami communities for the past two decades. OYC Miami offers valuable educational and personal development programs accessible to all individuals, regardless of their background or income level. The organization strongly emphasizes financial literacy, equipping young people with the tools and knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.
“We are so proud to have Amerant on board with us in our mission to empower and educate our youth,” Tina Brown says, CEO at OYC Miami. “By joining forces, we can provide even greater resources and expertise to foster financial literacy among our students, enabling them to make informed financial decisions and build a strong foundation for future generations.”
