AlleyCat in Boca Raton Aims to Redefine Japanese Cuisine

Chefs Eric Baker and David Bouhadana launched the concept.

Esteemed Chefs Eric Baker and David Bouhadana, the masterminds behind Sushi by Bou and Sunset Sushi, recently introduced AlleyCat in Boca Raton. This new dining spot is dedicated to Japanese izakaya, the art of sushi, omakase, Sakaduri, and a new catering concept called “Homakase”. The collaboration of these two innovative chefs at AlleyCat showcases their creativity and expertise in Japanese culinary traditions.

Baker, renowned for his mastery of izakaya-style dining combined with a French culinary background, brings years of experience creating vibrant, flavorful dishes that capture the essence of Japanese comfort food with a unique twist. Chef Bouhadana is famous for his meticulous and dedicated approach to omakase and sushi. He has garnered a loyal following due to his commitment to using the finest ingredients and his popular “Tuna Tuesdays” events, which feature high-energy nights with a live DJ playing Studio 54-themed disco beats. These events attract many guests eager to witness the “art of Sakaduri,” which involves the deconstruction of a 200+ pound tuna in front of an audience.

“We are thrilled to introduce the new AlleyCat to East Boca Raton,” says Baker. “It represents our shared passion for authenticity and innovation in Japanese cuisine.”

AlleyCat in Boca Raton provides an exceptional dining experience where classic Japanese and Asian flavors are fused with modern culinary techniques. Patrons can anticipate a meticulously curated, dual chef-driven menu that harmonizes Chef Eric Baker’s izakaya dishes with Chef Bouhadana’s celebrated omakase selections and sushi creations.

“AlleyCat embodies our dedication to Japanese culinary excellence with a fun, modern twist,” says Bouhadana. “We invite guests to join us on this unique culinary journey and the multitude of diverse dining experiences that we are now able to offer our guests.”

AlleyCat Boca Raton

The name AlleyCat reflects the restaurant’s spirit of adventure, inviting guests to embark on unique culinary journeys through its diverse spaces infused with Japanese flavors. The atmosphere seamlessly blends contemporary elegance with traditional Japanese design elements, offering a warm setting for both intimate dining and lively gatherings.

AlleyCat highlights Chef Baker’s traditional Izakaya and sushi menu. Guests seeking an omakase experience can make advance reservations at Sunset Sushi next door. The two spaces are interconnected through the kitchen, providing access to the Sunset Sushi Omakase experience. Chef Eric Baker introduces his take on traditional omakase on select Tuesday nights with a ticketed dining experience called “Chef Eric Baker’s Counter.” Here, guests can reserve a spot for an intimate 12-seat curated 15-course tasting menu that beautifully combines Japanese and French cuisine. Additionally, tuna-cutting ticket events are held once a month by advance invitation.

AlleyCat at Sunset Sushi made a grand entrance in May as a distinctive dining experience with a lavish Tuna Tuesday event. Sunset Sushi officially began its Omakase residency in April. AlleyCat has introduced a fresh menu along with a new lineup of weekly offerings for various dining experiences, including Tokyo Taco Tuesdays, Daily Happy Hour, Highballs & Handrolls Thursdays, and $5 Anytime handcrafted Lychee Martinis (Sunday – Thursday). Additionally, they now feature Homakase and omakase offerings and popular Tuna Tuesday events once a month. Furthermore, AlleyCat has launched “Meow-tastic Mondays,” a series on their Instagram channel where Chef Baker showcases his latest signature creations.

His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.
