City National Bank of Florida Introduces National Capital Markets Group

It will offer capabilities in the capital market by providing structured financial solutions.

City National Bank of Florida (CNB), one of the largest banks in Florida, is launching a new Capital Markets Group (BciCapital) that offers a comprehensive range of structured financial solutions throughout the U.S. The CNB Capital Markets Group, operating nationally under the BciCapital brand, caters to middle-market sponsors across diverse industries and segments.

The launch of the Capital Markets Group aligns with CNB’s sustained growth. Current assets total $26 billion, a significant increase from $3 billion 15 years ago. According to the Federal Reserve, this positions CNB among the 75 largest banks in the U.S.

BciCapital will focus on capital market solutions in multiple areas, including:

  • Loan syndications enhance the bank’s abilities in organizing, distributing, and carrying out larger transactions spanning various industries. The team collaborates with clients to develop, advise, and promote syndicated loans for fund acquisitions, refinancing, recapitalizations and restructurings and to facilitate other business objectives.
  • Capital placement is adept at identifying the appropriate capital strategy and leveraging extensive real estate knowledge across the real estate sector. This encompasses debt and equity options, including direct placements to agency lenders, commercial mortgage-backed securitized lenders, insurance companies, debt funds, mezzanine, preferred equity, and other alternative capital providers.
  • Specialty Capital offers industry-specific coverage and advisory services across various specialized industries. The initial effort involves the Institutional Financial Sponsors team, which delivers sophisticated capital and advisory solutions tailored to sponsors within the private equity, private credit, hedge fund, family office, asset management, and insurance sectors. The range of comprehensive capital solutions includes fund financings, leverage finance and sponsor finance solutions, asset-backed finance, syndicated finance, treasury and payment, and wealth management.

“Using our strength in Florida and the global reach of our parent company, this new group is a springboard in completing capital markets transactions across the country and a natural next step for CNB as we expand our platform and enhance our offerings as a full-service bank,” says City National Bank of Florida CEO and Vice Chairman Jorge Gonzalez. “BciCapital will build on CNB’s 75-plus year tradition of providing exceptional service, forging personalized relationships, and putting capital to work in a smart, strategic manner as we help our clients advance their goals.”

BciCapital will be led by Raul Llanes, the Managing Director. He will oversee a core team of over 10 bankers, associates, and risk officers, which includes Kurt Woolley, the Senior Vice President and Director of Syndications and Placement; Brian Mulligan and Jorge Garcia, both Senior Vice Presidents and Senior Bankers for Institutional Financial Sponsors; Mariano Perez, Senior Vice President and Senior Banker for Capital Placement; Steven Mueller, Vice President and Senior Associate for Syndications; Tyrone Kee, Vice President and Senior Associate for Institutional Financial Sponsors; Charles Groeschke and Adam Grossel, both Vice Presidents and Capital Markets Portfolio Risk Officers.
