Glamour and a Rock’n’Roll History at Andaz Hotel West Hollywood

The hotel is filled with a vibrant and rich history.

A great hotel to enjoy on a vacation, a dash of love and a lot of rock’n’roll. Isn’t that all that we need when it comes to a little escape? I realized recently during a visit to a property that does tell tales, tales of the past and how it was the first hotel on the Sunset Strip, one that seduced many well-known artists and musicians to book a stay. This property is the Andaz Hotel West Hollywood. It’s one that will certainly make you feel that way, the way that you sometimes need a dash of excitement, especially if you have never visited sunny California before and this buzzy area.

The Andaz West Hollywood is a hotel full of a spicy and loud history, plus captivating art and a sense of glamour. It’s the type of place that will make a stay at the upscale West Hollywood unforgettable and comfortable, with so many options to enjoy a great weekend, a great week or an even longer stay.

Oh, and did I mention that it’s extremely historic? It’s a property with a buzzing energy and a place that musicians and celebrities have called home during iconic times in their careers.

The Andaz Hotel West Hollywood simply screams the type of cool vibes that are sprinkled in with a vivid elegance. Its stories of a celebrity and musician-filled past whisper tales about the artist’s shenanigans throughout the hotel hallways and its rooms.

Visitors as I will be impressed by rock and roll inspired art inside its rooms, rooms that are as spacious as they are relaxing, each one with a view of the West Hollywood hills or the bustling and energetic views of the Sunset Strip.

The film Almost Famous and the Amazon Prime streaming show Daisy Jones & The Six,based on the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid were filmed at the property. They both tell stories about the trials and tribulations of touring musicians and their sidekicks, the occasional pure heartbreak and the meaning of falling in love during times where rock reigned, plus the power of songwriting.

To top it all off, there are many legendary tales about the past and a bit of crazy happenings at the hotel. One example of a true rock’n’roll story is the one where Led Zeppelin used to throw furniture off the 11th floor while their manager rode a motorcycle through the hallways. Now, that’s a story!

Other artists that caused a memorable ruckus with their visits during an epic rock’n’roll past include The Rolling Stones, The Who, Guns N’ Roses, The Doors. This is why the property earned the name of Riot House, all thanks to these band’s crazy adventures within its walls.

The amenities and offerings at the Andaz West Hollywood are perfect, and its Riot Bar restaurant and bar is one that’s worth a visit to dine surrounded by views on the Sunset Strip.

The restaurant named after the property’s nickname features classic American dishes and appetizers, many with a twist. It also offers a cocktail list for those looking to try some sweet, tart and an array of nicely mixed signature drinks. We tried some during our visit, and we highly recommend coming down for a sip to explore the flavors that each cocktail offers.

Speaking of sips, the hotel offers a complimentary Wine Hour from 5 to 6 pm. It’s the perfect way to indulge with a glass before exploring West Hollywood and to strike up a conversation with your party or even to make new friends.

Another gorgeous, relaxing and epic amenity is the hotel’s rooftop pool and bar. The bar, named the Sundeck Bar, offers the perfect lite and filling bites and dishes to enjoy sitting at the bar or by the pool. Expect a friendly and knowledgeable staff, refreshing salads, a classic chicken tender platter and refreshing poolside drinks such as Mojitos and a delicious and perfectly prepared Aperol Spritz.

The rooftop is a place that you must explore, featuring gorgeous views of West Hollywood, views of beautiful mountains and homes that inspire relaxation. The pool area also offers visitors the chance to choose to soak in the sun on a cabana that are perfectly placed in a way that no view is left behind. You will see it all if this is the choice that you make to enjoy a day by the pool.

While the hotel now has the feeling of a modern boutique hotel, photos of the hotel’s past look will greet you as you come up the stairs to the pool area, and it’s great for someone staying at the property to see the changes in architecture styles from then to now.

As a place where peace, love and rock’n’roll reigns, staying at the Andaz Hotel West Hollywood is a no brainer, especially for those wanting to learn more about its history and that wish for a relaxing and intimate stay on a prime location where you can explore all that West Hollywood offers.

A glittering light on the Sunset Strip, make sure to visit, stay and surround yourself with the sparkle that Andaz Hotel Hollywood provides on your next or even first visit to California. You won’t regret your choice.

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast.
