The Hanley Foundation is responding to the ongoing opioid crisis by raising awareness and taking action to save lives in Palm Beach County. To commemorate National Fentanyl Awareness Day on May 7, the Hanley team is organizing an event where community members are invited to help prepare Narcan kits that will be distributed throughout the county. The event will occur from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hanley Resource Center at 933 45th St. in West Palm Beach.
Fentanyl has become a significant cause of the opioid epidemic in the U.S., leading to over 70,000 overdose deaths in 2023. Narcan, a medication that quickly reverses opioid overdose, is being used to help with the crisis. Hanley aims to empower people to offer assistance in overdose situations and potentially save lives by providing them with these kits.
“National Fentanyl Awareness Day is the perfect time to shed light on this urgent public health crisis and take tangible steps toward saving lives,” Dr. Rachel Docekal says, CEO of the Hanley Foundation, which provides substance use prevention and education programs. “We’re honored to partner with our Palm Beach County neighbors on this critical initiative.”
The objective of the event is to assemble 300 kits for distribution across the county. In addition, the event will feature Narcan training sessions, and attendees will be provided with a complimentary light lunch. For more information, visit here. Space is limited and registration is required. RSVP at Hanleyfoundation.org/events/national-fentanyl-awareness-day/
