Discover the Charm of Mallorca: An Increasingly Popular Destination for South Floridians

The area offers one-stop connections by several airlines from Miami International Airport.

Chances are, most travelers have never heard of the  Balearic Islands. But odds are good that they have heard of Mallorca – the largest of the Balearic Islands off eastern Spain.

Known for its beaches, scenic coastline and the Serra de Tramuntana mountains to the north, Mallorca is a popular spring/summer destination for Europeans and Americans, alike. The capital city of Palma and its Gothic cathedral with an altar canopy by modern architect Antoni Gaudí, and Almudaina, a Moorish royal palace, help make Mallorca a “must visit’’ destination.

While peak summer months in the Balearic Islands cater to those seeking a lively Mediterranean atmosphere, fall in Mallorca provides a more serene and laid-back vibe that is attracting more and more South Floridians thanks to one-stop connections offered by several airlines from Miami International Airport.

Grape festivals and the Mallorca Marathon are among the island’s main autumn attractions, but Mallorca is also a golf paradise, with more than 20 golf courses, including Clube de Golf Alcanada, an outstanding Robert Trent Jones, Jr., designed on the island’s northern tip.

Mallorca’s best-known golf club is Santa Ponsa, which has three courses on the south side of the island and has hosted a number of European PGA events.

The abundance of the constantly evolving island is personified at the five-star Zafiro Palace Andratx, the crown jewel of the Mallorcan family-owned Zafiro Hotels portfolio. Resplendent in authentic island character, secluded terraces give way to sweeping views of the rugged Serra de Tramuntana mountains and white sand beaches. Exclusive partnerships with the island’s most unique purveyors invite guests to explore local and top-notch amenities that have discerning travelers returning year after year.

“Mallorca’s unique Mediterranean charm, stunning beaches, historic architecture, and world-class cuisine, paired with its accessibility, makes it an attractive option for Miami travelers seeking an international destination that combines luxury with authenticity,’’ said Cecilia Svane, global marketing director for Zafiro Hotels.

Mallorca has rich cultural experiences, from its local markets to art galleries, while also catering to upscale travelers with five-star resorts, such as the Zafiro Palace Andratx. For those looking for a sophisticated yet relaxing getaway, Mallorca delivers a perfect balance of natural beauty, outdoor adventures, and high-end experiences.

The Zafiro Hotels portfolio, Svane said, continues to lead Mallorca’s hospitality transformation as the pioneer of the luxury all-inclusive concept on the island. The Zafiro Palace Andratx, for example, is a striking all-suite resort  built around the contours of a towering mountain, with an abundance of outdoor spaces.

In addition to 304 generously sized suites with either an outdoor private pool or hydromassage bathtub, the hotel is home to five restaurants, a trio of garden and skyscape infinity pools, and a spa and wellness center.

Standout artwork is from female-owned ABA ART and take-home vanity cases are designed by Teixits Vicens, one of the island’s only traditional artisanal fabric makers.

“We’ve seen great success since introducing our ‘All-Inclusive Redefined’ concept in 2023, with travelers now more than ever seeking unique and unforgettable experiences.’’

The elevated Zafiro all-inclusive experience personalized concierge service, priority bookings in all hotel restaurants, a robust selection of international wine and cocktails, VIP airport transfers, 24-hour room service, and priority tee times at the adjacent Golf Andratx course. The layout has some great views of Mallorca, as well as one of the longer holes in Spain – the 666-yard, par-, sixth hole. Be sure to check out our hotel’s stay-and-play packages.

Want something more unique than golf? Hotel guests can now book an excursion on a ‘llaut,’’ the traditional boat of the Balearic Islands, with a sustainable twist – the boat runs on a 100 percent electric motor.

Mallorca Golf

Available exclusively for Zafiro guests, the experience consists of a trip for up to six people along the southwest coast of Mallorca, with opportunities for water activities such as SUP and underwater scooters, as well as onboard food and drinks featuring locally sourced products. This sustainable experience causes no emissions, has no carbon footprint, and causes no stress to local marine wildlife.

Each of the experiences at Zafiro Palace Andratx plays perfectly into the theme of “Mallorca’s Magical Memories.’’

“We want our guests to leave with a deeper connection to Mallorca and remember how their stay captured the island’s natural beauty and rich culture,’’ Svane said. “Guests can also explore the nearby coastline and beaches on complimentary electric scooters, allowing them to experience Mallorca like a local. Through thoughtful, personalized touches, we strive to make every stay feel indulgent and memorable.’’

His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.
