In legal news: Miami Mayor Francis Suarez just added a major item to the top of his resume. Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan is opening an office in Miami with 10 attorneys, including the telegenic, tech-evangelist mayor in the role of “of counsel.”
This will mark the firm’s third opening in 2021 in the United States after Austin and Atlanta, but the choice of South Florida was strategic. With Suarez’s marquee name now attached, Quinn Emanuel will be well-positioned to capitalize on the city’s unique rep as the nation’s next tech and fintech center.
Some of the firm’s top attorneys in New York and Washington, D.C., are swarming to relocate to help build up the Miami practice. No doubt Suarez is a magnet.
“We have big plans for Miami,” said Quinn Emanuel founder John Quinn in a statement. “Under Mayor Suarez’s leadership, it has become a magnet for businesses, entrepreneurs and investment talent,” he said. “With our leading complex commercial litigation and IP practices—and with our thriving Latin American practice—opening here is an obvious step.”
