An Exclusive and Sophisticated Omakasé Dining Experience at Sushi by Scratch

Reservations are required for a seat costing $165 per person.

In a secluded corner of Coconut Grove, Sushi by Scratch awaits. Those embarking on this dining journey need only seek out the guiding red light that leads to an omakase paradise. The mere presence of this small beacon sparks unparalleled anticipation for what awaits. As you approach the light overhead, you’ll stand before a door, tentative as to whether you’ve arrived at the correct destination. Is this merely a residence? What lies beyond? Then, you’ll notice a small plaque by the door bearing the restaurant’s name, and a sense of relief will wash over you.

It’s time.

Sushi by Scratch makes you feel like pure royalty from the start. As you walk in, you are greeted with a welcome cocktail to start the night off right. There is also a wall of wine bottles for sale, and on some select nights, diners have a chance to mingle with wine experts and sommeliers before your delectable sushi experience.

After the dining experience, we recommend coming to Sushi by Scratch about 20 minutes before your reservation. Not only will you be able to enjoy the above amenities, but you will also get to meet others who will be seated with you. Here, you come by to make new friends. You are there with others who enjoy fine dining and private experiences, which makes the dinner a special one.

Thanks to this, expect lots of laughs at a counter surrounding those ready to take care of your experience that sits only 10, surrounding the sushi chefs and master bartender. Every seat is carefully labeled with your name, so expect a little moment of being surprised. Who will you sit right next to?

Trust me when I tell you that you’ll have the ultimate blast with those who are there. The chefs are chatty, energetic and know how to read and entertain a room. This makes the experience cozy and fun and it’ll also make you feel like you are at a dinner table with close friends instead of people that you might have just met besides anyone in your party.

Let’s talk about the chefs. They are the ones creating the experience and are extremely professional and knowledgeable about what they are making for you. You will not only dine, but you will be educated on the art of fresh fish, ingredients and where they get all of these to make sure the sushi bites are perfect for their diners.

There is also a well-versed cocktail, wine and sake bartender expert available in the room, ready to answer any questions that you might have on what the perfect drink pairings are to accompany your omakasé. We recommend, if you can, to try out one of their sake or Japanese whiskey flights. If you love these spirits, you will be in heaven with their expansive and upscale selection of brands.

Sushi-by-Scratch

Sushi by Scratch offers interested diners three daily seatings at 5 PM, 7:15 PM, and 9:30 PM. Reservations are crucial, especially for the intimate dinner experience.

The experience includes handmade nigiri bites served by the chefs, who engage directly with guests over 17 courses. The dinner lasts about two hours, and it’s worth every moment.

Sushi by Scratch does not offer extras or sidecars of soy sauce or wasabi. Everything is truly made from scratch, including the soy sauce, vinegar and everything else the chefs prepare and serve right before your eyes.

The bites are perfect to eat with your hands, and this is strictly recommended so you can enjoy all the flavors in front of you. There’s also a palate cleanser and warm sanitized towel that will assist you between you indulging on different nigiri bites of sushi.

All around, Sushi by Scratch is an unforgettable experience, perfect for any occasion. They stay true to their name and make sure to serve you professionally and with the utmost elegance. Don’t miss it.

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico. His other clients have included Four Seasons, Acqualina Resort & Residences, Yahoo!, American Airlines, Wynn, Douglas Elliman and Corcoran. As an adjunct assistant professor, Limsky has taught journalism, film and creative writing at the City University of New York, Pace University, American University and other colleges.
