Our Fund Foundation to Host “For Better or Worse in Post-Roe in the U.S.—A Vow to Protect LGBTQ+ Equality” Forums

Prominent LGBTQ+ leaders in South Florida will host two informative forums to discuss the challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community following the Supreme Court’s recent Dobbs decision and the harsh rhetoric, increased hostility and uncertainty it unleashed. With many in the LGBTQ+ community voicing concerns about the future of rights and liberties, Our Fund Foundation is presenting two free educational discussions entitled “For Better or Worse in Post-Roe in the U.S. – A Vow to Protect LGBTQ+ Equality.”

“Due to the Supreme Court’s recent decision, the LGBTQ+ community has learned a sad new fact of life,” David Jobin says (pictured), CEO of Our Fund Foundation. “Our planning for the future must now take into consideration the possibility of losing our hard-fought current rights.”

Attendance is open to community members who wish to hear from respected panelists presenting legal, financial, mental health and spiritual insights into how they can protect themselves, build resiliency, find support and prepare for future challenges.

“With Dobbs, the majority has torn down the entire doctrine protecting marriage equality, gay rights and contraception, among other personal liberties, as the liberal justices wrote in dissent, these rights are ‘all part of the same constitutional fabric,” David Treece says, of the Treece Financial Group. “I knew that marriage equality would come under the gun next, but many people are in denial about what can happen. They say things like, ‘Don’t worry, it won’t happen,’ but I contend that until there is something more concrete, it’s best to take action now to protect the legal rights and financial benefits accorded by your marriage.”

Panelists include Gregory R. Nevins, Esq., Senior Counsel, Lambda Legal, Elizabeth F. Schwartz, Esq., Principal, Elizabeth F. Schwartz P.A., David Treece, Treece Financial Group, Rev. Amy Carol Webb, River of Grass Unitarian Universalist Congregation and Eugenio Duarte PhD, Psychoanalyst.

Those interested in attending are requested to RSVP to ocaballero@our-fund.org and are required to wear a face mask or show proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations. Both events will be live streamed on Our Fund’s Facebook page.

Established in 2011, Our Fund Foundation has grown into the third largest LGBTQ foundation in the nation. As South Florida’s only LGBTQ community foundation, Our Fund promotes a culture of philanthropy by uniting donors with organizations advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties and supporting causes within the LGBT community.
