The Museum of Discovery and Science Names New Chief Learning Officer

The Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) has named David Rahahę́·tih Webb as its new chief learning officer, bringing the longtime museum leader back to Fort Lauderdale in an expanded executive role.

Webb will oversee the museum’s education, exhibits, sustainability and life sciences departments while developing a unified strategy that connects school programs, public experiences, workforce development, live animal collections and exhibit planning. He will also serve on the museum’s senior leadership team and help guide the development of permanent, traveling and digital exhibits.

“David has a deep understanding of MODS, our mission and the communities we serve,” said Joseph P. Cox, president and CEO of MODS, in a statement. “At a pivotal moment in the Museum’s growth, his leadership will help unite our programs, people and spaces around a bold and cohesive vision for learning.”

Webb returns as MODS continues a major expansion. The museum recently launched the first phase of its Build a Better World: The Future Begins with You initiative, which focuses on climate resilience, environmental stewardship and character-based learning. MODS is also developing the Deerfield Beach Nature Center while expanding its community partnerships and educational offerings.

Webb first joined MODS in 2018 as director of education before serving as interim vice president of programs. During his tenure, he led the education department, managed grant-funded initiatives and helped guide the museum’s programming and community outreach throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Even after leaving the museum, he remained involved as a consultant, creating educational resources, curricula and interpretive content for MODS, its IMAX documentaries and partner attractions.

Most recently, Webb served as executive director of Muddy Sneakers, a North Carolina nonprofit that provides environmental education through outdoor learning experiences. His previous leadership positions also include president and CEO of Everglades Wonder Gardens and director of public engagement at the Aquarium of Niagara.

In his new role, Webb will lead efforts to strengthen the museum’s educational mission by integrating learning across every aspect of the visitor experience.
