2021 Real Estate Awards Honoree: Alicia Lewis

Alicia Lewis is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, but attended undergrad, graduate and law school in Alabama. I am license to practice law in both Florida and Georgia. Her first job post-law school was at a boutique government firm in Atlanta. She relocated to South Florida in 2014 and never looked back because it’s such a beautiful and amazing place to live. What she loves most about being a land-use and zoning attorney is that she can get to be a part of shaping a community that she loves living in.

Fun Fact: I competed in the Miss America competition and my talent was classical ballet.

What challenges have you faced in your career, and how did you overcome them? Early in my career, I often felt intimidated by the brilliant architects, land planners, and engineers that I work with on a daily basis. I overcame my feelings of intimidation by getting to know them personally, asking tons of questions, and reading every engineering and architectural book I could buy on Amazon. I continue to do that today and it’s only continued to help me succeed.

What has been the most monumental moment of your career thus far? Becoming a partner at Kelley Kronenberg.

What inspired you to make Real Estate a career? I’ve loved interior design since I was a kid and as I got older, I naturally fell in love with real estate development.

What was the most memorable sale or deal you’ve had in the past year? Topgolf Miami Gardens and Doral.

When in 2020 did you realize that something major was happening in South Florida Real Estate? I realized that something major was happening when New York residents began moving to South Florida at an enormous rate. With South Florida’s limited housing supply, I knew the market was definitely going to have to adapt quickly.

Who was your most helpful mentor in the business? Our marketing director, Michelle Martinez-Reyes, has been by far the most helpful mentor that I’ve had in this business. She’s extremely good at what she does, but she’s also a good person who loves to see others succeed. Plus, she always gives honest feedback and sound advice.

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico. His other clients have included Four Seasons, Acqualina Resort & Residences, Yahoo!, American Airlines, Wynn, Douglas Elliman and Corcoran. As an adjunct assistant professor, Limsky has taught journalism, film and creative writing at the City University of New York, Pace University, American University and other colleges.
