What is your favorite South Florida dining destination? Joe’s Stone Crabs

What do you like to do on the weekends? Spend time with family. Catch up on leisure reading. Long walks in nature.

How do you unwind from a long day at work? Family dinner and a good Netflix series.

What is your favorite quote? “Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence. And having that impact last into your absence.”

From whom, or what, do you draw inspiration? I have been very blessed to have a few mentors in my life.  Two are my partner today and one was my grandfather who is sadly no longer with us. They have been a source of professional and personal inspiration to be a better father, spouse, friend, and partner.

What has been the biggest accomplishment of your career? When we sold BankAtlantic in 2012, I took responsibility for an approximately $600 million portfolio of the “scratch and dent” assets we kept.  This included non-performing loans, foreclosed real estate, and performing loans with some issue that caused them to be considered.

What has been the most challenging moment in your career and how did you overcome it? Was in business with a relative early in my career and I decided to part ways. Navigating the business issues around the separation while maintaining a good relationship was very challenging.  I overcame the challenge by being vulnerable in terms of communicating my feelings and making sure the economic decisions did not impact the relationship. In other words, I put the family relationship ahead of the business relationship.  We are a close family to this day.

What advice would you give an up and coming professional? Be the “go to person” for those above, under and adjacent to you on the organizational chart. Be known for exceeding expectations. Honor commitments without being reminded. Ask for more responsibility. “Sharpen your saw” by seeking out mentors and ways to continuously learn. Ask for and act on feedback regularly. Do not let anyone out work you!

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico. His other clients have included Four Seasons, Acqualina Resort & Residences, Yahoo!, American Airlines, Wynn, Douglas Elliman and Corcoran.
