Florida’s Growing Cannabis Market to be Next Topic of Discussion for Exit Planning Exchange

The South Florida chapter of the nonprofit, Exit Planning Exchange (XPX) announced its latest event to address one of the hottest topics and growing business sectors: marijuana. “The Cannabis Market – A Growing Opportunity or Up in Smoke?” will last from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Ft. Lauderdale Yacht Club.

The event will feature an executive-level panel discussion on the trends, evolving legal landscape, investment tax and financial implications of today’s cannabis industry.

“This is an incredibly timely topic as Florida’s medical marijuana industry has continued to explode since voters approved it in 2016,” says Charles Faron (pictured), XPX South Florida chapter president and managing director of Ewing Hill Advisors, Inc.

Rana Gorzeck, an XPX Board member and partner at Ward Damon law in West Palm Beach, added, “This should be an insightful and informative discussion, as well as an opportunity for those interested in the exit planning space to connect and network.”

Panelists include the following:

  • Abner Kurtin is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ascend Wellness Holdings (AWH) and the Portfolio Manager for JM10 Partners Fund, the latter of which operates two private equity funds that invest growth capital into the cannabis industry.
  • Tiffany Liff is the co-founder of Entourage Effect Capital and has been a successful cannabis investor since 2017. With more than 20 years of leveraged finance and M&A experience, Liff currently manages EEC’s portfolio of investments in over 40 companies for all of its funds and SPVs.
  • Jeffrey Pheterson is a partner at Ward Damon in West Palm Beach who focuses on labor and employment law, business and corporate law, healthcare and complex commercial litigation. Pheterson and the law firm represent business owners and businesses, including prospective operators and applicants for medical marijuana treatment center licensure in Florida.
  • Todd Sherer is a First Vice President at Valley Bank, where he is responsible for new business development for specialty clients, particularly in the cannabis industry. A frequent speaker at many of the cannabis industry’s major events, Sherer was previously the Director of Business Development for Kind Growth Capital, where he provided over $100 million in debt financing to leading cannabis companies in the US.

The event’s presenting sponsor is Nperspective CFO & Strategic Sponsors, the welcoming sponsor is Ward Damon and the desert sponsor is Valley Bank. The South Florida chapter of XPX was founded in 2020 to bring together a diverse range of advisors who collaborate to help private businesses move toward a successful exit strategy.
