Apogee Awards 2015
SFBW has honored nearly 200 with its Apogee Awards, which recognize top leaders in South Florida Business. The awards are unique in the region for featuring a variety of positions throughout the C-suite.
Senior Human Resources Executive Tracy Wiggan Federated National Wiggan spent 13 years with FedNat (previously Federated National) and departed in 2018 as vice president of HR. In April 2019, she followed her lifelong love of baking to open Lilleth’s Pastries in Pembroke Pines.
Chairman Antonio L. Argiz Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra Argiz continues to be chairman and CEO of MBAF, a position he has held since 2007. He is also honored in this anniversary issue as an SFBW CEO cover subject and “CEO Connect” interviewee.
Chief Marketing Officer Eric Lebersfeld Capitol Lighting Lebersfeld has been with his family’s Capitol Lighting since 1987. He has been CMO since 1992 and president since 2010.
Chief Marketing Officer Brian Wallace Magic Leap Wallace served as CMO at Magic Leap from 2014 to 2017. In September 2019, he joined IDEMIA, an IT services company, as CMO and senior vice president.
Chief Information Officer Tery Howard Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium After 19 years, Howard in early 2019 left her role as senior vice president and chief technology officer for the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium (formerly Sun Life Stadium). Venuetize, a Tampa company that offers mobile technology platform for connected venues, named Howard to its board in 2018.
Senior Human Resources Executive Jo Carol Rutherford SBA Communications After 17 years, Rutherford in 2018 left SBA Communications, where she had served as senior and chief HR officer. She is currently a principal, executive coach and business partner with Shepherd Advisory Practice.
Chief Financial Officer Daniel Kushner City National Bank Kushner was honored as executive vice president and CFO of City National Bank. In his current role as chief strategic advisor, he serves on the CNB board and works closely with the president and CEO on key initiatives, such as evaluating and developing new business opportunities, assessing and advising on strategic real estate initiatives, tax planning and managing the bank’s insurance needs.
Chief Operating Office Mark Smith 3Cinteractive Mark Smith continues as COO and cofounder of 3Cinteractive. He is co-chair of Palm Beach County’s Infotech Workforce Development initiative.
Chief Operating Office Jessica Pavlik Berger Singerman Pavlik is still COO at the Berger Singerman law firm. She participated in a women’s business leader roundtable in the November 2019 issue of SFBW.
Chief Financial Officer Steve Wilder City Furniture Wilder has played a key role in the growth of City Furniture, which is a top-30 furniture retailer nationally. He continues to serve as CFO.
Chief Financial Officer Joanne I. Aquilina Bethesda Health Aquilina continues as vice president of finance/chief financial officer of Bethesda Health, which operates two hospitals. Bethesda is now part of Baptist Health South Florida.
Senior Human Resources Executive Adriene McCoy Baptist Health South Florida McCoy continues as corporate VP and chief HR officer at Baptist Health South Florida. Baptist Health now includes Boca Raton Regional Hospital and the Bethesda hospitals in Palm Beach County.
Chief Information Officer Tom West Nova Southeastern University West continues as CIO and vice president for information technologies at Nova Southeastern University. He joined the university in 2011.
Chief Information Officer Lakshman Charanjiva NextEra Energy In 2017, Charanjiva left his position as vice president and chief information officer for NextEra Energy. He currently is technology managing director for private equity at BC Partners, an international buyout investment company.
Chief Marketing Officer Maylynn Vargas-Menoud Roig Lawyers Vargas-Menoud was director of marketing of Roig from 2014 to 2017. In April 2019, she became CMO of Spiritus Law.
CEO Frank V. Sacco Memorial Healthcare System Sacco led the expansion of Memorial from one to six hospitals, serving as president and CEO. He retired in 2016.
CEO Michael Kaufman Kaufman Lynn Construction Kaufman is president and CEO of the commercial construction management and general contracting firm he founded in 1989. Since that time, the company has grown into one of South Florida’s largest construction firms.
President Michael D. Katz Katz Barron Katz began his legal practice in 1970 and continues as a founding member of Katz Barron, a full-service law firm with offices in Miami and Fort Lauderdale
Chief Operating Office Xavier Gonzalez eMerge Americas Gonzalez served as COO, executive director and CEO of eMerge Americas. In June 2018, he became vice president at Cyxtera Technologies, a Coral Gables company that provides data center co-location, cloud services, cybersecurity and analytics solutions.
President Richard Hayduk Boca Raton Resort & Club Hayduk served as president of the resort from January 2013 to December 2015. He is CEO and general manager of New York City’s Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village, a multifamily property management firm.
J. David Armstrong Jr. Broward College Armstrong retired as president of the college in 2018 and served a year as president emeritus. He is chairman of BCEduventures, a student venture fund at the college.
CEO Tere Blanca Blanca Commercial Real Estate Blanca continues as the founder, chairman and CEO of Blanca Commercial Real Estate, the leading independent Miami-based commercial property real estate advisory services and brokerage firm. She is also recognized in this issue as a CEO Connect subject.
Chairman George LeMieux Gunster A former U.S. senator, LeMieux continues to serve as chairman of the board and a stakeholder at Gunster, a prominent Florida business law firm. He is also recognized in this issue as a cover subject.
Chairman Mike Jackson AutoNation Jackson is regarded one of the most influential and effective leaders in the automotive field. In 2018, he transitioned from CEO to executive chairman at AutoNation.
