Banking veteran Lynne Wines to lead effort to fight homelessness

Lynne Wines, one of the most prominent figures in South Florida banking, will lead a major initiative to help the homeless in Broward County.

In her new role starting in September, Wines will be responsible for leading and managing the “United We End Homelessness” initiative and will lead and chair the business community’s efforts to end homelessness by convening, planning and implementing community strategies. She also will lead community partners in this collaborative community-wide initiative.

SFBW previously covered the launch of a major effort to help the homeless in Broward County.

Prior to joining United Way of Broward County, Wines served as president and CEO of First Southern Bank and was responsible for all aspects of market and operations for the $1 billion state-wide bank. Prior to that position, she served as president & COO of CNL Bank, a $1.6 billion commercial bank where she was responsible for all market and operational units, including deposit and loan growth, profitability and bank-wide operations. And previous to that, she served as president & CEO of Colonial Bank, formerly Union Bank of Florida, where she managed the strategic direction of this $1.1 billion community bank.

“Throughout Lynne’s career, she has fostered important community relationships and has demonstrated great success at the companies she has worked for, her business acumen will bring significant value to the Broward Business Council on Homelessness. We are thrilled to add her to the team, she will be perfect to lead our efforts to stabilize homelessness here in Broward County,” said Kathleen Cannon, President/CEO of United Way of Broward County.

Wines is currently chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee and a member of the Audit and Risk Committee at BankUnited.

She also serves as a board member and executive chair for Leadership Florida and is on the board of 2-1-1 Broward. Her past community involvement includes serving as a board member and chair for United Way of Broward County, and as a board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Fort Lauderdale as well as vice chair for the Florida Community Health Network.

Wines has been recognized for her service in the community, including receiving United Way of Broward County’s Magnolia Leadership Award (2015); South Florida Business Journal, Top Ten CEO for Palm Beach County (2013); South Florida Business Journal, Influential Business Women’s Award (2009); and American Diabetes Association, Valor Award (2009).

Wines is currently finalizing her master’s degree in public administration, public service leadership at New York University and is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University with a bachelor of science in business administration.

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico. His other clients have included Four Seasons, Acqualina Resort & Residences, Yahoo!, American Airlines, Wynn, Douglas Elliman and Corcoran. As an adjunct assistant professor, Limsky has taught journalism, film and creative writing at the City University of New York, Pace University, American University and other colleges.
