Peacock & Lewis Architects and Planners tied for first place in the Golf Inc. Design Awards for Clubhouse of the Year, in the clubhouse renovation category, for its $6.6 million transformation at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach. The Lakeside Grille’s sunken event patio was raised to the same height as the main dining room and its awning replaced by a permanent roof. Retractable glass walls created more air-conditioned seating with views of the ninth and 18th holes. A bronze Bear Trophy became a focal point in the main gallery. Space for playing cards was expanded and windows used to provide abundant natural light. The remodeled clubhouse is 35 percent more energy efficient. The project also received a Merit Award of Excellence from AIA Palm Beach for commercial interiors, and the NEWH Golden Palm Award and two first-place awards from the American Society of Interior Design, for clubhouse renovation and product design for its wine cooler/trophy case.
